Earl Marshall pointed out that on the page "Shiflets
and the Civil War: "Border Guards" Co. D 46th Reg. Infantry"
The entry on Lindsay Shiflett notes that he may be the Lindsey, son of Lewis
Shiflett and Sarah Haselrig. But, it is much more likely that he would be the
Lindsey son of John Shiflett and Elizabeth Campbell as concluded on the
jbetsy chart.

23 Apr 2008 I am starting a new obituary page for Shiplett / Shipplett obituaries there are currently 49 obits
23 Apr 2008 I changed the Not at the end of the obit for Edmund Shiflett to read: Note: There are two family burying grounds. One is the old Shiflett Cemetery located on land once owned by Lunas Jarrell Morris and his wife Althea Alice Shiflett. It is about 100 yards off of Rt. 810 near Shifflett's Mill Rd. The land is now divided into lots and being sold. The cemetery is on lot #3. There is one new house built about 100 feet from the cemetery. Edmund's parents are buried there. The second is off of Rt. 601 in Mission Home on the land once owned by Bessie's parents Ralph Georgianna Shiflett. There are only field stones as grave markers in this grave yard.

Following George's death, Elizabeth appears to have had a relationship with Thomas Burton, a neighbor. See family chart for updates on children. Bob Klein and I, along with help from Larry Shifflett and Eugene Powell, have been working the last few weeks
on a new chart for John and Joice Shiflett. The charts that spring from it are not completely finished, but
I thought I would go ahead and release the first one, and also the chart for
John Shiflett and Betsy Campbell. The biggest changes in these charts:
1) recognizes that Joice, the wife of John Shiflett who died in 1794 may be a Powell, and she may not be a Powell - there is no proof either way.
2) Linsey, who m. Jennie Keaton, is the son of John Shiflett and Betsy Campbell. Lindsey's brother, Lewis m. the other Keaton. This last part is based on the work Earl Marshall did
several years earlier; and Lindsey's birth year of 1818 makes more sense now.
3) Sarah, who m. Smith Shiflett is the daughter of John Shiflett and Betsy Campbell - this
is from the marriage records - John (father) and Lewis (brother) are both mentioned, I believe.

The Revolutionary War Records of John Shiflett have been edited to remove references to land grants (located on the deeds pages) since Land Grants had nothing to do with military service. Only Bounty Land Warrants (which could be traded and sold) reflect military service.

If you try any of these recipes, I don't want to hear from your lawyer about how you poisoned yourself with lye and kerosene fumes, or that your pot exploded when you tried to cook the salt out of the grease.

Terrible storms came through Fort Worth about 12 days ago. We were without power
for 6 days. In the middle of the first storm branches from my neighbor's tree
fell on my car, taking out the rear windshield and yeah, my car is totaled.
The 90mph winds caused a great deal of damage in our neighborhood. The second
storm sent 6 inches of rain onto already drenched soil. I opened the garage
and 2 inches of water rolled in. I guess that's one way to clean the garage,
heh heh.

Hello everyone,
Yes, I know I've been gone for a LONG time, but I believe I am now back. You
will have to bear with me while I get used to my new, very fast, Windows computer
and the corresponding software, which is so different from my much loved, but
dying, 133mhz Macintosh.
While I'm sure many of you think I abandoned the Shiflett genealogy cause, my
dad and now I have paid the 12.95 every month to keep the site up and running.
Some have asked why I left. Maintaining the site had become too much pain and
hard work without any pleasure. Chester Johnson died, George Foss died, 9/11
happened, we had some problems with our kids, and ofcourse the house has been
under constant destruction and reconstruction/remodeling for years now (the
end is finally in site).
The crumbling point came when I received an email from a young man who informed
me quite forcefully that I had just about ruined his life and that of his family.
Someone had posted a query on our site looking for a Shiflet family they used
to know. Another kind Shiflett researcher emailed the man and gave the man info
on how to find the family. Although done with the very best of intentions, this
was very, very bad for the young man and his family. They survived, but I can
only imagine the pain, terror and heartache this family went through. The young
man was very, very angry and focused his anger on me in that email. I was heartbroken,
because it doesn't matter how much good we do in sharing our information, if
it causes terrible harm, it's a curse, not a blessing.
