Elizabeth (--) 20 Jun 1788 and sol d 14 Mar 1823, wid appl 6 Jul 1842 Madison Co KY aged 75, sol lived in Orange Co VA at enl, wid state her oldest son Hasten Shifflet was aged 54 in 1842, sol and wid had 12 children and raised all of them but no other children were named, sol and wid had m in Orange Co VA and sol d in Madison Co KY

In order to obtain the benefit of the acts of Congress of the 7th July 1838, entitled "An act granting half pay and pensions to certain widows"
State of Kentucky
County of Madison

On this sixth day of July eighteen hundred and forty three personally appers before the Magistrate Court of the County of Madison and State of Kentucky --- Elizabeth Shifflet a resident of the above written County and State aged seventy five years, who being first duly Sworn, according to law, doth on her oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the act of Congress passed July 7, 1838 entitled, An act granting half pay and pensions to certain widows, that she is the widow of Thomas Shifflet who was a soldier of the revolutionary war as a militaman from the County of Orang and state of Virginia in Captaine Berkes Company and Collonel Linseys redgment, She thinks that these are the officers he served under but she but she has forgot their Christian names. She has heard her husband speak of serving under other officers, and being at the surrender of Cornwalis, and of having skermishes with Colonel Tarltons Light horse she thinks that she has heard her husband say he served two years, and that he had a discharg but it has got lost. She refers to the evidence annexed for his servises and the officers he served under and when the marriage took place with herself and husband owing to loss of memory and the want of a family record she is unable to give a presise statement of the above facts.

She further states that she was married to the said Thomas Shifflet on the twentieth day of June in the year seventeedhundred and eighty eight that her husband, the aforsaid Thomas Shifflet died on the the fourteenth day of March in the year eighteeenhundred and twenty three; that she was not married to him prior to his leaving the servis but the marriage took place previous to the to the first of January seventeeenhundred and ninty four viz at the time above stated, She states that from the best means that she has to assertain her eldest son Hasten Shifflet is in his fifty fourth year that she has had twelve children and raised all of them she cannot State the day her husband enterd the servis but she has heard him say that he was drafted the day that he was put on the muster roll. That they was married in the County of Orange and State of Virginia and her husband died in the County of Madison and State of Kentucky.

I Isam Lane a resident of the County of Madison and State of Kentucky aged eighty four years certify that I searved with Thomas Shifflet (letters actually looks like p's instead of f's) two towers of three months in the revolutionary war each making six months we searved together. Our officers was Captain Henry Berk and Austin Mills Company and Collonel Reubin Linseys Redgment I was from the County of Orange and he was from the County of Albemarl both in the state of Virginia I have known Thomas Shifflet ever since my [earliest?] recollection we did not reside more than one mile apart altho in different Counties I further State that I was at the marriage of Thomas Shifflet and Elizabeth Lamb in the County of Orange and State of Virginia they was living in the same neighbourhood and she knew that She was living in Orange County she supposed that he was living in Orang County to. I well recollect of being at their marriage it was three months after I was married in the year Seventeenhundred and eighty eight they was married by Jacob Wiats who was a Baptist Clergyman that we searved in the same Ridgment together in the war of the revolution and Elizabeth Shifflet who made this declaration is the same person that I saw married to Thomas Shifflet whe servd with me in the war as stated above That she now resides in the County of Madison Kentucky given from under my hand this 6th day of July 1843

In order to obtain the benefits of the Act of Congress of the 3d of March, 1843 granting penisons for one year to ceartain widows who have received pensions under the act of July 7, 1838

County of Madison

On this first day of December eighteenhundred and forty three pearsonally appeared before the undersigned Justice of the Peace in and for the County of Madison and State of Kentucky aged seventy-five years, who being first duly sworn acording to law, doth on her oath make the following declaration, in order to obtain the benefits of the provision made by the act of Congress passed onthe 3d March 1843 granting pensions to widows of persons who served during the Revolutionary war. That she is the widow of Thomas Shifflet who was a soldier of the revolutionary war in the militia from the County of Albemarl and Ste of Virginia, she states that he searved twelve months, She refers to her former Declaration and evidence in this case, In her former declaration she stated that her husband Thomas Shifflet was from the County of Orange but uppon reflection she states that it was Albemarl near to the line of Orange. That she is inscribed on the pension list on the sixteenth day of November eighteenhundred and forty three at the rates of twenty dollars per annum Recorded in the Pension in Book D, Vol 1 Page 377 by D. Sworn to and subscribed on the day and year first above written before me the undersigned a Magistrate in and for the above written County and state and I further certify that Elizabeth Shifflet is the indentical person who is the holder of a certificate that gives her a Pension at the rate of Twenty dollars per annum given from under my hand this 1th day of December 1843 I further certify that she is still a widow.
