This Indenture made and done this second day of November one thousand seven hundred and ninety five, between Francis Powell and Sally his wife of County of Orange of one part and Michal Mawyers of County of Culpeper of other part. Witnesseth that Francis Powell and Sally his Wife for sundry good causes but more especially in consideration of the full and just sum of Two hundred and fifty pounds current money of Virginia to us in hand paid, the receipt whereof we do hereby confess and acknowledge, hath and by these presents doth bargain and sell unto Michal Mawyers his heirs all that parcel of land lying in the County of Orange and bounded: Beginning at a Gum at the bank of the South Branch of the Rappadan River thence up the different meanders of the River ninety nine poles ot a Gum on the sd. River, thence South fifty three degs. West one hundred and eighty five poles to a black Oak, Chesnut Oak on a pile of Stones on the arm of the Little Ledge, thence South twenty five degrees East eighty eight pole to a Gum in a Valley, corner to Winslow, thence South seventy two degrees East fifty eight pole to a Poplar, corner to said Winslow, and from thence to the first station, containing by estimation one hundred and thirty one and a quarter acres, be the same more or less, Together with all houses orchards profits and emoluments for the benefits profits and advantages of Michal Mawyers his heirs; And we do for ever warrant and defend the tract of land against all claims that shall or may after appear. In Witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands and affixed our seals the day and year above written

. . .whereas it is inconvenient for Sarah Powell to travel to our County Court of Orange to make acknowledgement there, We command you to repair to the said Sarah Powell, and that privily and apart from her Husband you take such acknowledgment as she shall be willing to make. . .Witness James Taylor, Clerk of our said Court, this tenth day of November 1795 in the 20th year of the Commonwealth.

Pursuant of the above Commisions. . . we have examined the above named Sarah Powell. . . Certified under our hands and seals the tenth day of November 1795

Mace Pickett to Ben. James Powell and Easter his Wife

This indenture made this twenty seventh day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety six and in the twentieth year of the United States of America; Between Mace Pickett of one part of County of Orange and Ben. James Powell and easter his Wife of the other part; Witnesseth that Mace Pickett in consideration fo the sum of Fifty pounds current money of Virginia to him in hand paid by Ben. James Powell, the receipt whereof Mace Pickett doth hereby acknowledge and confess himself fully satisfied and paid according to bargain that therefore do discharge Ben. James Powell and easter his Wife during her natural life and after her death to be sold and to give two years credit and the money to be equally divided amongst all her Children or Child, and if my Daughter, Easter, shall die without Child or Children then the land also to be sold as above, and Ben. James Powell to have fifty pounds of the money the land sells for to dispose of as he pleases agreeable to his own will and pleasure and the balance to return to me and my disposall as I think proper as I am fully satisfied agreeable to bargain of Ben. James Powell and Easter his Wife have and by these presence do bargain and sell unto Ben. James Powell and Easter his Wife agreeable to the above written bargain, one certain parcel of land containing One hundred acres lying in County of Orange and Colony of Virginia and bounded, Beginning at a red Oak and Chesnut in a line of said Picketts, thence No. nine degrees East thirty two poles to three Chesnut Oaks, one white Oak on a Stony Ridge, thence East twenty poles to two white Oaks on a Hill side, thence NO. eighty five degrees East sixty one poles to two Locusts on a Run, thence No. twenty nine degrees East fifty six poles to a white Oak and Chesnut Oak in another line of said Picketts on the Ridge thence with said Ridge East eighty poles to a Spanish Oak on the said (omitted) thence South sixty seven degrees East eighty poles two two white oaks, corner to ben. Winslow and Jacob Anderson, thence South forty eight degrees West one hundred and fifty six poles to a red and white Oak in Winslows line thence North forty nine degrees West to the beginning. . .In witness whereof Mace Pickett hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year within written.

This Indenture made the Sixth day of August one thosand seven hundred and ninety eight; Between Mace Pickett and Sarah his Wife of County of Orange of one part and Benjamin Powell of County aforesaid of other part; Witnesseth that Mace Pickett in consideration of sum of Fifteen pounds hath and by these presents doth bargain and sell unto Benja. Powell his heirs a certain parcel of land containing Eight and a half acres lying in County of Orange and bounded Beginning at a Chesnut and red Oak, corner to Ben. J. Powell and Wm. Eaton, thence with Eaton's line South sixty four degrees East seven poles to a Chesnut Oak, thence South thirty three degrees East six pole to a white Oak, thence South twenty four degreees East thirty six poles to a Chesnut, thence South forty degrees East ten poles to a Chesnut, thence South fifty seven degrees East sixty two poles to a Pine, corner to sd. Eaton, thence North thirty six degrees East ten poles to a red and white Oak on a Road, corner to Benja. J. Powell, thence with sd. Powell's line North forty nine degrees West one hundred and fourteen poles to the beginning; To have and to hold the parcel of land. . . unto Benja. Powell his heirs, and Mace Pickett for himself. . . doth covenant. . . In witness whereof the parties have set their hands and seals the day and year above written.

This Indenture made the Sixth day of August one thosand seven hundred and ninety eight; Between Mace Pickett and Sarah his Wife of County of Orange of one part and Honorias Powell of County aforesd of other part; Witnesseth that Mace Pickett in consideration of sum of Two hundred and seventy pounds hath and by these presents doth bargain and sell unto Honorias Powell his heirs a certain parcel of land containing One hundred and forty one and a half acres lying in Orange County and bounded Beginning at a Poplar on South side of a Branch corner to Benja. Powell, thence down the meanders of the Branch South seven degrees West forty six poles, thence South fifteen degrees East twenty four ples, thence South thirty seven degrees West twenty six poles, thence due South sixteen poles, thence South forty four degrees East three poles to a Poplar and Maple on said Branch, corner to Wm. Eaton, thence with sd. line North eighty degrees East sixty four poles to a Chesnut and red Oak, corner to sd. Eaton, and Benja. J. Powell, thence North nine degrees East thirty two poles to three Chesnuts Oaks and white Oak corner to sd. Powell, thence due East twenty poles to two white oaks on a Hill side, thence North eighty five degrees East sixty one poles to two Locusts on a drane, thence North twenty nine degrees East fifty six poles to a white and Chesnut Oak, corner to Ben. J. Powell and John Miller, thence with Miller's line North seventy four degrees West twenty poles, thence North forty eight degrees West thirty six poles thence North thirty degrees West fifty poles, thence North forty three degrees West fourteen poles, thence North seventy six degrees West thirty four poles, thence North forty two degrees West seventy six poles, thence North seven degrees East twenty poles to a large white Oak and Gum, corner to sd. Miller and Wm. L. Powell, thence with sd. line South eighty two degrees West eighteeen poles to two Gums, corner to Benja. Powell, thence with Powell's line South thirteen degrees West twelve poles to two white Oaks, thence South thirty degrees West forty poles to a red Oak, thence South twenty degrees West thirty six poles to the beginning; To have and to hold the parcel of land . . .unto Honorias Powell. . .In Witness whereof the parties have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year above written

This Indenture made the 28th of January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety nine; Between Mace Pickett and Sarah his Wife both of County of Orange of one part and Benjamin Powell of said County of other part. Witnesseth that Mace Pickett and Sarah his Wife in consideration of the valuable sum of One hundred pounds current money of Virginia to us in hand paid by Benjamin Powell, the receipt whereof we do herby acknowledge, have and by these presents do bargain and sell unto Benjamin Powell his heirs a certain tract of land lying in County before mentioned and is bounded; Begining at two white Oaks, corner to Benjamin Powell's line, thence S. 85 degrees W. 100 poles to a white Oake and Gum on the Path side, thence due South 24 poles to a Spanish Oak and two white Oaks, thence South 34 degs. East 20 poles to a white Spanish and Chesnut Oaks, thence South 77 degrees East 32 poles to two Chesnuts, thence N. 55 degreees E. 26 poles to a white Oak on top of a Ridge, thence S. 30 degrees E. 44 poles to red and white Oaks, South 55 degreees E. 32 poles to a red and white Oak, S. 24 degrees, E. 28 poles to a Gum and white Oak Stump, thence S. 67 degrees E. 80 poles to two white Oaks, corner to Jacob Anderson, thence N. 33 degrees W. 15 poles to the begining. Eighty nine acres, together with all appurtenances to the same belong: To have and to hold the tact of Land etc. etc. Given under our hands and seals this (blank) day of our Lord 1799.
