Francis Cowherd of Orange Co. serves as a captain in the VA line. His pension begins in 1828; he dies 25 Mar 1833, leaving a widow, Lucy.
John Shiflett serves in Jefferson's Company of the Albemarle militia.

    John Shifflet and Lewis Shiflet sign "religious petition": "The religion then of every man must be left to the convictions and conscience of every man; and it is the right of every man to exercise it, as these may dictate. This right is, in its nature, an unalienable right. It is unalienable; because the opinions of men, depending only on the existence contemplated by their own minds, cannot follow the dictates of other men."
