To, all to whom these presents shall come, Greeting:
Whereas John Shiplet of Muskingume County, Ohio has deposited in the General Land Office, of the United States of America, a Certificate, of the Register of the Land Office, at Chillicoth whereby it appears that full payment has been made by the said John Shiplet, according to the provisions of the Act of Congress of the 24th of April, 1820, entitled "An Act making further provision for the sale of the Public Lands" for the East half of the North East quarter of Section three in Township eight, of Range eighteen, in the District of Lands Subject to Sale at Chillicoth Ohio containing Seventy eight acres and twenty four hundredths of an acre, according to the Official Plat, of the Survey of the said lands, returned to the General Land Office by the Surveyor General, which said tract has been purchased by the said John Shiplet. Now Know Ye, that the United States of America in consideration of the premises, and in conformity with the several Acts of Congress, in such case made and provided, Have Given and Granted, and by these presents Do give and grant unto the said John Shiplet and his heirs, the said tract, above described: To have and to hold the same together with all the rights, privileges, immunities, and appurtenances of whatsoever nature, thereunto belonging, unto the said John Shiplet and his heirs and assigns forever.

In testimony whereof, I, John Tyler President of the United States of America have caused these letters to be made patent, and the Seal of the General Land Office to be hereunto affixed given under my hand, at the City of Washington, the tenth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty three, and of the Independence of the United States the Sixty seventh.

Whereas Solomon Shiflet of Jackson County, Ohio has deposited in the General Land Office, of the United States of America, a Certificate, of the Register of the Land Office, at Chillicothe whereby it appears that full payment has been made by the said Solomon Shiflet, according to the provisions of the Act of Congress of the 24th of April, 1820, entitled "An Act making further provision for the sale of the Public Lands" for the South West quarter of the North East quarter of Section Seventeen in Township eight of Range eighteen, in the district, of lands subject to sale at Chillicothe, Ohio, containing thirty nine and sixty five hundredths of an acre, according to the Official Plat, of the Survey of the said lands, returned to the General Land Office by the Surveyor General, which said tract has been purchased by the said Solomon Shiflet. Solomon Shiflet to Galon Shiflet

Know all men by these presents That we, Solomon Shiflet & Frances Shiflet his wife of the County of Jackson and state of Ohio in consideration of the sum of fifteen dollars in hand paid by Galon Shiflet of Jackson County, Ohio have bargained and sold and do hereby grant, bargain, sell and convey unto the said Galon shiflet his heirs and assigns forever, the following premises, situated in the County of Jackson and in the state of Ohio and bounded and described as follows: towit, part of the South West Quarter of the North East quarter of Section seventeen (17) of Township eight (8), of Range eighteen (18) the part describes as follows: commencing at the South West corner of said lot thence running East to a small branch near a white oak tree,thence running ten rods North to a maple tree, thence running West to a gum tree and a small dog-wood thence running South to a hickory tree the place of commencing in Jackson County, Ohio containing three acres more or less. To have and to hold said premises, with the appurtenances, unto the said Galon Shiflet his heirs and assigns forever, and the said Solomon Shiflet & Frances Shiflet his wife for him self and heirs do hereby covenant with said Galon Shiflet his heirs and assigns, that he is lawfully seized of the premises aforesaid; that the premises are free and clear from all incumbrances what so ever; and that he will forever warrant and Defend the same, with the appurtances unto the said Galon Shiflet his heirs and assigns against the lawfull claims of all persons whomsoever.

In testimony where of, the said Solomon Shiflet & Frances Shiflet his wife have hereunto set their hand and seal this 4th day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty four.

Before me John Goodrich, a justice of the peace in and for said county; personally appeared the above named Solomon Shiflet and Frances Shiflet his wife and acknowledged the signing and sealing of the above conveyance to be their voluntary act and deed; and the said Frances Shiflet being at the same time examined by me, separate and apart from her said husband and the contents of said instrument made known to her by me she then declared that she did voluntarily sign seal and acknowledge the same, and that she is still satisfied therewith; this fourth day of March A.D. 1854

Galon Shiflet To Deed Robert G. Colvill

Know all men by these presents that we Galon Shiflet and Sarah Shiflet wife of Galon Shiflet of the county of Jackson and State of Ohio in consideration of the sum of fifty dollars in hand paid by Robert G. Colvill of Jackson County Ohio have bargained and sold and do hereby grant bargain sell and convey unto the said Robert G. Colvill his heirs and assigns forever the following premises situated in the County of Jackson in the State of Ohio and bounded and described as follows to wit; part of the south west quarter of the north east quarter of section seventeen of Township No. 8 of Range No. 18 the part described as follows; commencing at the south west corner said lot thence running East to a small Branch near a white oak tree thence running ten rods north to a maple tree thence running west to a gum tree thence running south to a hickory tree the place of commencing containing three acres more or less in the State of Ohio Jackson County. To have and to hold said premises with the appurtenances unto the said Robert G. Colvill his heirs and assigns forever, and the said Galon Shiflet and Sarah Shiflet his wife for themselves and heirs do hereby covenant with said Robert G. Colvill his heirs and assigns that they are lawfully seized of the premises afore said that the premises are free and clear of all incumbrances whatsoever and that they will forever warrant and defend the same with the appurtenances unto the said Robert G. Colvill his heirs and assigns against the lawful claims of all persons whomsoever. On testimony whereof the said Galon Shiflet and Sarah Shiflet his wife have hereunto set their hands and seals this sixth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty four.

Know all men by these presence that we Thomas Leach and Mary Ann Leach wife of the said Thomas Leach of the County of Jackson and State of Ohio in consideration of the sum of [four] hundred dollars in hand paid by Nathaniel Shiflet of same place have bargained and sold and do hereby grant and convey to the [said] Nathaniel Shiflet his heirs and assigns forever the following premises situated in the County of Jackson State of Ohio and [bounded and described to wit] the south east quarter of the north east quarter of Section No. twenty eight Township No. eight and Range No. eighteen of Lands heretofore sold at Chillicothe, Ohio containing forty acres more or less. To have and to hold said premises with the appurtenances unto the said Nathaniel Shiflet his heirs and assigns forever and the said Thomas Leach for himself and his heirs doth hereby covenant with the said Nathaniel Shiflet his heirs and assigns that he is lawfully seized of the premises aforesaid heretofore premises are free and clear from all incumbrances whatsoever and he will so warrant defend the same with the appurtenances unto the said Nathaniel Shiflet his heirs and assigns against the lawful claim of all persons whatsoever. In testimony whereof the said Thomas Leach and Mary Ann Leach his wife have hereunto set their hands and seals this 20th day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty one.

Defendants

The Plaintiff represents that he is the duly appointed and qualified Administrator of the estate of Solomon N. Shipley late of Fayette County, Ohio, deceased; that the amount of debts due from the deceased is about $300 dollars, as near as can be ascertained that the charges of administration of said estate will amount to about $75 dollars; and that there is no personal estate and effects of said deceased, being wholly insufficient to pay the debts and costs aforesaid. the Plaintiff further represents that said Solomon N. Shipley died seized in fee simple of the following described real estate, situate in the County of Fayette and State of Ohio, and in Marion township and bounded as follows: Beginning in the middle of the New Holland and Washington Pike at the corner of Bluford Shipley's lot; hence with his line N. 14 w 17.60 poles, to the center of said R.R. N. 78 1\2 degrees E. 9.12 poles to a stake in the center of said R.R.; hence S. 81 degrees W. 9.12 poles to the place of beginning, containing one acre of land part of survey No. 6475
