This unknown was tentatively identified by Marie Herring (granddau. of Noah Herring) as Old man Geo and family. The photo was in possession of Beatrice Powell who lives in Gordonsville. My mom and her sister both agreed that it looked like one of the Herrings. That is why I sent it to Marie Herring in PA thinking she might identify it. Marie never saw Old man George but was convinced it was Old man George and family because he looked so much like her grandfather Noah. It couldn't be Jake or Noah or any of the other Herring kids because the family is too large. I just have a real hunch, based on my mom's recognition of the Herring features that it may very well be Old man George and family.

Raleigh William Raines in Greene Co. in 1923. See their chart for further family connections. I have a few guesses for this photo. Upon observation it looks like it could be: 1) Henry B. Shifflett (s/o Henry B. Shifflett & Patience A. Shorb Shifflett) and Martha Jane Shifflett (d/o Benson & Christina Shifflett); 2) One of Cornelius Turner Shifflett's brothers (Levi, Anfield, Calvin or Milton Shifflett); or 3) Cornelius Turner Shifflett & Mariah Julia Berry Shifflett with their children. The gentlemen bears a striking resemblance to Cornelius Turner Shifflett and the girl in the background bears a striking resemblance to Roberta Alice Shifflett.
