Information and photo submitted by Larry Shifflett
Harrison Martin Shiflett, sitting with cane, born Oct. 14, 1814 and died June
28, 1907. He was the son of Winston and Mildred Shiflett. In the center
beside him is his wife, Matilda A. (Morris) Jones, born Jan. 26, 1826 and died
Feb. 24, 1906. Sitting on the right is their daughter, Carrie Ann Shiflett,
born Oct. 8, 1840 and died Jan. 2, 1919. She married Samuel McDowell
Shiflett, standing at left, who was born May 4, 1840 and died August 8, 1928.
(See Samuel McDowell Shiflett's Civil war letter). He was the son of William Lively Shiflett and a grandson of Thomas and Lucy Shiflett. Standing, holding the child is their daughter, Emma M. Shiflett Eddins. She married her
husband, Charles H. Eddins, standing beside her, on Feb. 19, 1902. The little
girl is their daughter Carrie Eddins.
The photo was taken ca. 1903/04 and includes 4 generations of this family.
Permission to use the photograph is given by Mr. Winfred 'Fred' Shiflett of
Colorado. As far as I know, this photo of Harrison Shiflett who was born in 1814 is the
only one of a Shiflett born this early.
