Mrs. Wade of Atlanta Shot
Mrs. Felix Wade, wife of a farmer living two miles east of Atlanta, is suffering from a bullet wound int her right jawbone, the result of an assault by an unknown person while Mrs. Wade was asleep in her bed at home about 10 o'clock Sunday night. Dr. Burke of Atlanta, who was called to attend her, says that the wound is not likely to be fatal, but that if the bullet had gone an inch higher it would have struck her in the temple and probably caused instant death. The bullet was extracted from the upper angle of the jaw, and at a late hour Mrs. Wade was resting as well as could be expected.

Great mystery surrounds the shooting. Mr. Wade told Dr. Burke that he first knew of it whe he heard his wife scream. The husband gave what assistance he could at once and then telephoned the doctor. Mr. Wade says he did not see anyone in the room, but while he was attenidng to his wife's distress he heard an automobile starting up in the road in front of the house. What the motive of the assailant could be is not known, unless he had learned that Mr. Wade had sold his oats on Saturday and the marauder might have thought there was a considerable sum of money in the house, but in fact the sum was small. Charles Wade, the son, had not returned home when his paretns retired and the front door was left unlocked for him to enter. Mrs. Wade is a sister fo Mrs. H.J. Stewart of Delevan, who is at the bedside of her sister.

Willard Shifflet Meets Instant Death
Willard Dean Shifflet, son of Mr. and Mrs. Levi Shifflet, was killed when a large electric light pole on which he had been playing, rolled off its supports and crushed his skull. Death was instantaneous. Willard was on his way home from school when he reached the sub-station of the Atlant Electirc Light & Power Co. he crossed the street to where the pole was lying across two trestles. He climbed upon the pole at one end and was attempting to walk the length of the pole, when his weight started the pole rolling. J. N. Hayter, who was across the street from the accident, was the first to reach the boy. He picked him up and carried him to Dr. Hutton's office where it was quickly ascertained that nothing could be done for him. Mr. Hayter did not see the accident but was attracted by the sound of the falling pole. He at first thought it was his own boy who had figured in the accident. It is difficult to ascertain just how the pole struck him. Only two people have been found who really saw the accident. Mrs. Helen Applegate, who was coming toward the scene of the accident was in the most favorable position and M. E. Higgins witnessed it from Klinkradt's barber shop. Others heard the pole hit the ground but were not aware of the terrible tragedy that had occurred. No other boys were about he pole with Willard when the accident happened although others had often walked the length of it the same as the unfortunate boy was attempting to do. Coroner C. B. Taylor empanelled a jury Wednesday afternoon and held an inquest. The jurors were Ed. Dyer, Dr. M. Lee, John Logue, A.O. Haines, H.T. Montgomery and Mahlor Mason. After hearing the vidence of Mrs. Helen Applegate, J. N. Hayter, Dr. Hutton Bert Mullins and Martin Higgins the jury returned a verdict to the effect that Willard "came to death by being crushed by a telephone pole falling from strestles, while playing on said pole." Willard was born April 13, 1915 and would have been ten years old in April. He was in the third grade in the Atlanta schools and his quiet, reserved manner won him the respect and friendship of his classmates and teachers. He is survived by his parents; two sisters, Alta Shifflet and Mrs. Elsie Irvin; and two brothers, Lyly and Floyd. Four brothers and sisters have preceded him in death, a younger brother, Harvey, having died about a year ago. Funeral service will be held a the Atlanta M. E. church Thursday, at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be made in the McLean cemetery. Mar 1925 The Bloomington Pantagraph, IL
