Comments:
Fountain Shiflett was the son of 2. Thomas and Elizabeth (Lamb) Shiflett Jr., and the grandson of 1. Thomas and Patience Shiflett of
Albemarle Co., VA. Thomas and Elizabeth arrived in Kentucky in the early 1800's but Fountain was born in VA. The Charles Clifton Shifflet, listed below, is my father. He went by the name "Clif" throughout his life.
The information on the family of Clifton and Margaret (Roberts) Shifflet was copied from the Family Bible of Clifton Shifflet by Clara Shifflet Todd and typed from said copy by Sam Parks Shifflet on November 11, 1954. It was provided to my family in April of 1975.

Death of Nathaniel Kindred: (Sept. 19, 1924)
The death of Nathaniel Kindred occurred at his home in the west part of
Atlanta (IL) last Friday evening. He had been in failing health for several
years, but his last sickness was brief, as he was up and around the house
until within a week of the end.
Nathaniel Kindred, son of Overton and Lettie Lane Kindred, was born in
Madison County, Kentucky, Feb. 18, 1846. At the breaking out of the Civil
War he made an effort to enlist, but failed and had to be content to serve
his country in the great civil conflict by driving government wagons.
On December 24, 1868, he was married to Miss Biddie Shifflet, also a
resident of Kentucky. To this union were born five children, all of whom
survive. They are Mrs. China Clay, of Atlanta; William F., of Fayette,
Ohio; James O., of Curryville, Mo.; Seth, of Atlanta; and Mrs. F. W. Haning,
of Windom, Minnesota. Mr. and Mrs. Kindred also took into their home and
cared for as their child another boy, Melvin Garrison, to whom they were
both greatly attached. Mrs. Kindred died in 1915. Besides his children he
is survived by one sister, Mrs. Sallie Ogg, of Newman, Ill.; and three
brothers, Overton, of Kentucky; James, of Atlanta; and George, of Ohio.
In the fall of 1881, the family immigrated from Kentucky to Illinois,
driving through in a covered wagon with a blind team and chain harness. It
required twenty-one days to make the trip. They settled on a part of the
Ezra Kenyon farm, later moving to the Dennis Kenyon farm, where he resided
for sixteen years, and with the help of his family made farming a success.
He then purchased the Gardner farm, east of Atlanta. Seven years ago he
sold his farm and moved to Atlanta, where he has since lived a retired life.
He was a familiar figure on the streets of Atlanta for a number of years, a
tone time weighing over 350 pounds, but of late years he had not been nearly
so heavy. In politics he was a staunch republican. At one time during his
residence in Kentucky he was a member of the Baptist church.
Funeral services were held at the Atlanta M. E. Church Sunday at 2:30 p.m.,
in charge of Rev. Frank M. Harry, of Champaign, assisted by Rev. Raye L.
Ragan, of Atlanta. The pall bearers were Byron Canfield, Lee Moore, Felix
Wade, Grant Ransdell, Walter Mason and Ben Brining. Interment was in the
Atlanta cemetery.
Among those attending the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Will
Kindred, of Fayette, Ohio; Mrs. and Mrs. James O. Kindred, of Curryville,
Mo; Mr. and Mrs. Will Ogg, Sr. and Mrs. and Mrs. Will Ogg, Jr. of Newman,
Ill.
