Why are there Morris obituaries on a Shifflett website??
Well the reason I am including Morris obituaries is that the Morris and Shifflett families in Virginia are so intertwined it is hard to research one without the other.

AMBROSE MORRIS
Ambrose Morris, one of the oldest and best known men of Monroe District,
departed this life June 13, 1922, about 2 P.M. Mr. Morris was born February 7,
1842, and had passed the four score mark. He lived all his life near the place
he was born which is on what is now called Wyatt Mountain a spur of the Blue
Ridge. He was a man of sterling character, firm and immovable from what he
considered right. He led a modest and quiet Christian life, devoted to his dear
wife and children, which he was especially interested in. Mr. Morris was an
industrious man always well providing for his family and their needs both
financially and otherwise. He was a member of the Christian Church most all of
his life, being one of the charter members of Old Mt. Union church which was
later moved to the Pines and the name changed to Mt. Olivet. He remained true to
his church till death, which showed he was a man of firm conviction. The world
needs men of this type in every walk of life, a man or woman that is going from
one church to another expecting to better their condition in life find out in
the end they are sadly mistaken. Mr. Morris leaves to mourn his loss his wife,
Mary and two daughters. Mrs. Charlottie Roach, of Dyke, and Miss Rosa Morris,
who has so faithfully stayed with her father and cared for his every need until
his last moments he left two sons, Jenus Morris, of March and Jonas Morris, of
Dyke. Mr. Morris had four brothers two of which are living and two have passed
to the great beyond; his living brothers are Isaac Morris of Nimrod and Bluford
Morris of Mission Home. Both brothers that preceded to the other world were
Benjamin and Nathaniel Morris of Pirkey. He had two sisters, Mrs. Rachel Morris
and Mrs. Rebecca Shiflett of near Pirkey. The county has lost a good and useful
citizen, his wife a loving husband, his children a kind father, the community a
good neighbor. The burial took place on his farm in the presence of a large
concourse of people; who come to pay the last tribute of respect to a good man.
His funeral will be preached sometime during the summer months.

ICY MORRIS
The Greene County Record, Greene Co., VA, Thurs, Feb 19, 1925
Mrs. Icy Morris died Jan. 20, 1926, at home of her son, Charlie Morris, at
Beasler Mill, aged about 36. Mrs. Morris was in bad health for a number of
years, but had kept on getting worse as the years passed. Cancer of the
breast was the cause of her death. Icy, as she was called by everybody,
was loved and respected by all. To know her was to love her. She was
a Christian woman having connected herself with God a number of years ago.
She was a member of Binghams Methodist church and attended when able to do so.
She lived on the old Bickers place for a number of years, and up to the death of
her husband who it will be remembered, was killed as a car went over an
embankment at Rio about three years ago. That left her and one daughter
alone. She was compelled to break up house keeping and live with her son.
She didn’t want to do so for she felt as if there was no place like home.
She never made many trips after she left her home. She said when she left,
“Please when I die bury me in the old Bickers grave yard.” Her request was
carried out. She was buried a very bad day. Not many there to see
her laid away--- Icy, who was so kind to every one she came in contact with.
We all feel she is better off and she is out of her suffering. Icy leaves
to mourn her loss her aged father, three sisters and two children, Mr. Charlie
Morris with whom she lived and Miss Addie Morris. She was laid to rest in
the grave yard beside her husband, Messrs. C. L. Bickers & Son were the
undertakers. The course is finished, the life is spent. The body to
the clay. The deed of life a monument. For the disclosing of that
eternal day. One who knew her well. NOTE: The year of death is
listed as 1926 but the Newspaper was Feb 1925.
