ADAM K. WYANT, SR.
Rites For A. K. Wyant, Sr.
Funeral and burial rites for Adam Kebillinger Wyant Sr., were held yesterday
morning at Mt. Moriah Methodist Church at White Hall, the service conducted by
the Rev. W. E. Cooley. Active pallbearers were T. I, Haden, Earl Abell, W. D.
Maupin, II., Harry Clarke, Thomas Wyant, II., and William Wyant, II. Honary
pallbearers included I. J. Poats, W. W. head, Nelson Jones, Wescott Jones, H. R.

AVIS RANDOLPH WYANT
Avis Rudolph Wyant, 87, of Crozet, died Thursday, March 16, 2006, in a local
hospital. Born in Charlottesville on February 17, 1919, he was the son of the
late George Thomas Wyant and Virgie Lee Dean Wyant. He was also preceded in
death by his sisters, Hettie Zimbro, Eula Sandridge; his brothers, Jesse Wyant,
Roy Wyant and Bernard Wyant. Mr. Wyant was retired from Frank Ix and Sons and
was a member of Lake Road Church of God. He is survived by his loving and
devoted wife of nearly 58 years, Thelma Via Wyant; one sister, Emma Lohr of
Fredericksburg; and one brother, Lonnie Wyant of Fredericksburg. A funeral
service will be conducted at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2006, in the Teague
Chapel with the Rev. Brian Cadle officiating. Interment will follow in Mt.
Moriah Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:30 until 4:30 p.m.
Saturday, March 18, 2006, prior to the service.

ELIZABETH F. WYANT
Elizabeth "Lizzie" F. (Morris) Wyant, 87, of Ruckersville, Virginia passed away
on Saturday, February 7, 2009. at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville,
Virginia. She was born on January 9, 1922, in Greene County, to the late Charlie
and Edna Morris. Elizabeth married Winfred R. Wyant in 1943, living in
Barboursville and Greene County throughout her life and most recently at
Heritage Hall in Charlottesville. Elizabeth and Winfred were blessed with four
children and were married for over 60 years until his death in 2004. She was
employed at the Orange Silk Mill, Daniel's Truck Stop, Circle Inn Motel, and
later cared for children in her home before her retirement. She was a member of
First Bible Baptist Church in Stanardsville, Virginia. Mrs. Wyant was a two-time
cancer survivor and is still regarded as a "miracle" case-study at the
University of Virginia, a testament to her faith, strength and tenacious spirit.
Elizabeth, also known as "Liz", "Lizzie", "Mama", "Mrs. Wyant","Grandma" and "Mee
Maw", will be best remembered for her love of her family, racing, fishing,
cooking, gardening, canning and yard sales. She was an excellent gardener,
winning numerous awards in the Greene and Albemarle County Fair for her flowers,
vegetables and canned goods. Her love of racing started in the mid 1960's as the
co-owner of a stock car, competing in tracks throughout Virginia. The passion
for this sport naturally passed to her children and grandchildren, who
successfully compete today on race teams winning many races and championships in
go-karts, street stock, and late model stock cars. She was a creative and
artistic perfectionist which could be seen in everything she did from the way
she meticulously decorated her Christmas trees and Easter eggs to her
needlepoint work. Elizabeth was an outstanding cook, always baking perfect
biscuits and cornbread "from scratch". Mrs. Wyant was pre-deceased by her
parents; husband, Winfred; and siblings, George "Buck" Morris and James and
Peggy Morris, who both died in infancy. She is survived by two sons, Winfred R.
Wyant Jr. and his wife, Paula, of Scottsville, Charles Wade Wyant and his wife,
Brenda, of Stanardsville; two daughters, Peggy Dettor and her husband, Jimmy, of
Charlottesville and Barbara Roach of Ruckersville; eight grandchildren, Lisa
Wyant of Troy, Tina Breeden and her husband, Tony, of Scottsville, Nicole Wyant
of Scottsville, Karen Long and her husband, Lance, of Quinton, Philip Morris and
his wife, Donna, of Ruckersville, Warren Scott Roach and his wife, Sharon, of
Ruckersville, Robbie Morris and his wife, Katherine, of Ruckersville and Charles
Wyant II of Stanardsville; 15 great-grandchildren, Lil Scottie, Tyler and Travis
Roach of Ruckersville, Allison, Blake and Tye Morris of Ruckersville, Daniel
Helmes of Scottsville, Hannah, Matthew and Adam Breeden of Scottsville, Dylan
and Lance Long, II of Quinton, Kaitlyn Wyant of Troy; and Luke and Sophie Morris
of Ruckersville; one sister, Joyce M. Shifflett of Ruckersville and a
sister-in-law, Mary E. Morris of Ruckersville; and numerous nieces, nephews and
many great friends. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday,
February 11, 2009, at First Bible Baptist Church in Stanardsville by Pastor
James E. Woods. Interment will follow at the family cemetery located at 1037
Moore Road in Ruckersville. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30
p.m. Tuesday, February 10, 2009, at the Ryan Funeral Home. Ryan Funeral Home is

ELSIE WYANT DEAN
Elsie Wyant Dean, 90, of Charlottesville, died Friday, July 5, 2002, in a local
nursing home. Born Sept. 28, 1911, in Elkton, she was the daughter of the late
Frank Wyant and Betty Hensley Wyant. She was also preceded in death by her
husband, Ollie B. Dean; two brothers, Kemper Wyant and Lurtie Wyant; and three
sisters, Minnie Wendt, Alma Bender, and Marie Dean. Mrs. Dean was a member of
the Barboursville Methodist Church. She also enjoyed gardening. Survivors
include three sons, El-wood B. Dean and his wife, Madeline, of Charlottesville,
Denson B. Dean and his wife, Patricia, of Barboursville, and Burl J. Dean and
his wife, Estelle, of Keswick; a brother, Winfred Wyant of Quinque; and six
grandchildren, Edward B. Dean and Jeffrey S. Dean, both of Charlottesville,
Barry A. Dean and Robert B. Dean, both of Barboursville, Ricky S. Dean of
Louisa, and Melinda Dean. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m.
Tuesday at Holly Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Kenny Barrow officiating. The
family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday evening at Hill & Wood

EMMA SHIFFLETT WYANT
Mrs. Emma Wyant, 50, of Quinque, died Sunday in a Charlottesville hospital. A
Native of Greene County, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Ella F.
Shifflett. She was a member of the Cedar Grove Brethren Church. Mrs. Wyant is
survived by her husband, Kemper S. Wyant of Quinque; a daughter, Mrs. Brenda
Mack of Quinque; two sons, Roy L. and Donald L. Wyant, both of Quinque; two
sisters, Mrs. Sallie Shifflett of Culpeper and Mrs. Audrey Sidoli of Richmond
and William both of Somerset and Alphonso Shifflett of Ruckersville; and one
grandchild. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Ryan Funeral Home
in Quinque, the Rev. Andrew Yelton officiating, with interment in the Maplewood
Cemetery, Gordonsville.

GLADYS WYANT LAM
Gladys Wyant Lam, 92, formerly of Elkton, died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2005, at
MontVue Nursing Home in Luray. Mrs. Lam was born June 22, 1913, in Rockingham
County, and was a daughter of the late Henry D. and Frances Gillis Wyant. She
attended Newport Church of the Brethren and Mount Lebanon Church in Shenandoah.
She was employed by Casey Jones and Blue Bell Inc. in Elkton as a seamstress. In
December 1932, she married Howard A. Lam, who preceded her in death in 1985.
Survivors include a son, Archie Lam of Elkton; a daughter, Pearl Comer of
Shenandoah; a brother, Dallas Wyant of Elkton; three sisters, Ruth Monger and
Virginia Gooden Bryant, both of Elkton, and Evelyn Hedrick of Harrisonburg;
seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The Revs. Kent Bennett and Jim
Martin will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kyger Funeral Home in
Elkton. Burial will follow at the Lam cemetery in the Mount Pleasant area of
Rockingham County. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at
the funeral home. Friends may visit at the Parkway residence of Mrs. Lam at any
time.

HENRY DEWITT WYANT
ELKTON - The funeral for Henry Dewitt Wyant, 79, of Rt. 3, Elkton will be
conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church by the Rev.
Ennis Dean. Burial will be in the Naylor family cemetery. Mr. Wyant died
Wednesday at Blue Ridge Sanatorium in Charlottesville where he had been a
patient four weeks. He was born June 6, 1894 near Elkton and was a son of the
late Robert H. and Lucy Naylor Wyant. He was a farmer and construction worker
and a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. On Dec. 13, 1912 he
married the former Frances Gillis, who survives. Also surviving are five
children, Mrs. Howard Lam, Mrs. Russell Monger, Mrs. Virginia Gooden and Dallas
F. Wyant, all of Elkton, and Mrs. Malcolm Shifflett of Harrisonburg; 18
grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends 7—8
p.m. today at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home. Mrs. Wyant will be staying
at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Wyant of Rt. 1,
Elkton, until after the funeral.

JAMES EVERETT WYANT
Wyant Funeral Set Thursday
ELKTON — The funeral for James Everett Wyant, 20, of Rt. 1, Elkton, who was
killed in a hunting accident Monday, will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at the Full
Gospel Assembly Church near McGaheysville. The service will be conducted by the
Rev. Kirk Powers and the Rev. S. A. Smith, and burial will be in Elk Run
Cemetery. Mr. Wyant was killed when struck in the chest by a high-powered rifle
bullet as he and a 13-year-old companion were hunting along a power line
right-of-way near Grottoes late Monday afternoon. Police have not yet found who
fired the bullet. Mr. Wyant was born at Elkton Sept. 16, 1961, and was a son of
John E. and Ada Shifflett Wyant of Rt. 2, Elkton. Surviving, in addition to his
parents, are his wife, the former Wanda Sipe, whom he married June 16,1978. Also
surviving are two daughters, Melissa Kay and Melinda Ann Wyant, both at home;
three sisters, Doris May Foltz of Harrisonburg and Mary Elizabeth Lam and Clara
Eppard, both of Elkton; a brother, Richard Lee Wyant of Elkton; and a
grandmother, Cora W. Wyant of Elkton. Mr. Wyant had attended Elkton High School
and worked for Raymond Gooden building contractor of Elkton. The body will be
taken from the Brill Funeral Home in Elkton to the home of Mr. and Mrs. John E.
Wyant of Rt. 2, Elkton at 3 p.m. today. Friends may call at his parents' home.
The casket will not be open at the church.

JESSE LEE WYANT
Jesse Lee Wyant of Crozet lost his 14 year battle with cancer on Tuesday, April
6, 2004. He was born in Albemarle County on April 29, 1936. He was preceded in
death by his parents, Jesse R. and Fannie F. Wyant. He was also preceded in
death by a brother, Albert "Paul" Wyant; and two sisters, Elsie Mae Moore, Mary
Helen Wyant. He is survived by five children and their families; Sherry L.
Koogler of Alabama her husband, Timothy, and their children, Christopher,
Courtney, Corey and Cameron, Donna W. Richards of Charlottesville and her
husband, Scott, and their children, LaToya and Tyler, Randy L. Wyant and his
daughter, Megan, Tony A. Wyant and his son, Bradley, and Teresa A. Hall and her
husband, Kevin, and their children, Olivia, Owen. He is also survived by six
brothers, Tim Boyne and his wife, Mary, Randall Wyant, Nelson "Ted" Wyant and
his wife, Juanita, Ray Wyant and his wife, Frances, Douglas Wyant and his wife,
Joyce, Dalmas Wyant and his wife, Viola. He is additionally survived by numerous
nieces and nephews, two special friends, Deborah Snow, and Julie Brown and his
dear friend, companion, and care giver, Lottie M. Harris. The family would like
to thank the staff of the UVA Cancer Center, his home health nurse, Becky Mimms
and Hospice of the Piedmont for their loving care. A funeral service will be
conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the Teague Chapel with the Rev. Mary Boyne
officiating. Interment will follow in the Sandridge Family Cemetery, Sugar
Hollow, after which the family then invites friends to the home of his son,
Tommy Wyant and Deborah Snow, 5735 Oak Drive, Crozet. The family will receive
friends 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the Teague Funeral Home.

LUCY A. WYANT
Mrs. Lucy Ann Wyant of White Hall, widow of Adam K. Wyant, Sr., died at 9
o'clock last night at a local hospital. She was a native of Albemarle County and
was 66 years of age. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mary Batis, of Roanoke
and Miss Nancy Wyant of this city and three sons, Henry Wyant of Roanoke, Samuel
Wyant of White Hall and Woodrow W. Wyant of this city. There is one
granddaughter, Geraldine Wyant Batis. Mrs. Wyant also leaves one sister, Mrs.
Ida Gibson of White Hall. The funeral will be held at 11 o'clock tomorrow
morning from Mt. Moriah Methodist Church, the Rev. Raymond F. Wrenn pastor of
the Crozet Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church yard.

LUCY MAE WYANT DRISCOLL
Mrs. Lucy Mae Wyant Driscoll of 327 14th St. NW died today in a Charlottesville
hospital. She was 85. An Albemarle native, she was the daughter of the late Adam
K. Wyant, Sr. and Emma Anderson Wyant. She was the widow of William Wallace
Driscoll. Mrs. Driscoll was a member of the Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church
of White Hall. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth D. Craig of
Charlottesville; two brothers, J. Nelson Wyant of Akron, Ohio, and Walker A.
Wyant of Roanoke; two half brothers, Henry Wyant and Woodrow W. Wyant of
Charlottesville; a sister, Mrs. Lacy Clark of White Hall; and two half-sisters,
Mrs. Charles Arnett of Charlottesville and Mrs. Reginald Garland of Roanoke.
Funeral services for Mrs. Driscoll will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Mt. Moriah
United Methodist Church, the Rev. James Athern officiating. Burial will be in
the church cemetery. The family request that donations be made to the
Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad. Preddy-Teague Funeral Home is in charge
of arrangements.

MINNIE BROOKMAN WYANT
Minnie Brookman Wyant, 89, of Charlottesville, Virginia passed away Monday,
December 3, 2007, at The Laurels of Charlottesville. She was born in Fluvanna
County on April 23, 1918, the sixth of ten children of the late Millard M. and
Leotie Brookman. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Borough Dennis;
her son, James M. Dennis; her second husband, Willis Glass; and her third
husband, Woodrow Wyant. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Andrew
Sr., Ammit and Benjamin "Bennie" Brookman; and three sisters, Irene B. Kirby
Turner, Virgie B. Drumheller Snow and Annie B. Dunkum. She is survived by a
brother, Lawrence Brookman of Bremo Bluff, Virginia; two sisters, Inez B.
Halterman of Palmyra, Virginia and Mary B. Petty Winston of Bremo Bluff,
Virginia; a granddaughter, Laura Jean Moss and her husband, Jerry, who have
cared for her over the last six years, a grandson, James "Jimmy" Dennis, four
great-grandchildren, Jerry Moss Jr., Jason Moss and his wife, Dana, Jessica and
Kimberly Dennis; four greatgreat-grandchildren, Brittany Moss, Jamie Moss,
Kaitlyn Moss, Gracee Moss; and numerous nieces, nephews, great- and
great-great-nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on
Friday, December 7, 2007, at Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church, with the

VELMA VIRGINIA WYANT LAM
Velma Virginia Wyant Lam, 92, a resident at Willow Estates, and formerly of
Elkton, died April 6, 2007, in Harrisonburg. Mrs. Lam was born Sept. 21, 1914,
in the Beldor area of Elkton, and was the daughter of the late Frederick J. and
Sarah (Sallie) Hensley Wyant. She worked at Sleepwear and at Sunnyside
Retirement Home before retiring. She was a member of the Mount Olivet Christian
Church. On July 13, 1940, she married Charles Elwood Lam, who preceded her in
death. Mrs. Lam was also preceded in death by a son, Larry Elwood Lam, three
sisters, Annie C. Smith, Reba Haney, and Doris Life, two brothers, Samuel T.
Wyant and Claude Wyant. Mrs. Lam is survived by a sister-in-law, Marjorie R.
Wyant, and a number of nieces and nephews. Pastor Wayne Wright will conduct the
funeral service 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at the Mount Olivet
Christian Church. Burial will follow at the Mount Olivet Cemetery in
McGaheysville. A reception will follow the committal at the church. Arrangements
by the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.

WILLIAM "BILLY" WYANT
William Marcus "Billy" Wyant, 76, of Free Union, died at his residence on
Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, after an extended illness. Born Aug. 1, 1928, in
Whitehall, he was the son of the late Adam K. Wyant and Irene Clark Wyant. He
was also preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph "Joe" Wyant of Keswick and
Robert "Bob" Wyant of Charlottesville. Billy was a U.S. Army veteran,
self-employed and owner/operator of a trucking business for several years.
Surviving him are a son, Marcus Joseph Wyant and his wife, Tracy, of
Earlysville; a grandson, Marcus Joseph Wyant Jr. of Earlysville; two brothers,
Clark Wyant of Charlottesville and Edward Wyant of North Carolina; numerous
nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Services will be private at a later date.
The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Earlysville
Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 104, Earlysville, VA 22936. Hill & Wood
Funeral Service is assisting the family.

WINFRED R. WYANT SR.
Winfred R. Wyant Sr., 79, of Ruckersville, left this world to live with the
Lord, on Friday, April 23, 2004, after a long courageous battle with Alzheimers.
He was born Jan. 31, 1925, in Rockingham County, son of the late James Frank
Wyant and Sarah Betty Wyant. He was a member of the First Bible Baptist Church
in Stanardsville, and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was retired from Wyant
Construction Company. Mr. Wyant is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth
F. Wyant; two son, Winfred R. Wyant Jr. of Scottsville and Charles Wade Wyant of
Stanardsville; two daughters, Peggy W. Morris and Barbara A. Roach, both of
Ruckersville; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded
in death by four sisters, Elsie Dean, Alma Bender, Minnie Wendt, and Marie Dean;
two brothers, Lurty Wyant and Kemper Wyant. A funeral service will be conducted
at 1 p.m. Monday, April 26, 2004, at First Bible Baptist Church, with pastor
James E. Woods officiating. Interment will follow at the family cemetery in
Ruckersville. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at
the funeral home. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, CNA's, and
the staff at Evergreene Nursing Home and Hospice of the Rapidan. In lieu of
flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation. Ryan

WOODROW WILSON WYANT
Woodrow Wilson "Weedy" Wyant, 85, of Charlottesville, died Monday, Oct. 21,
2002, at his residence. he was the son of the late Adam K. Sr. and(Born Nov. 9,
1916, in White Hall, Lucy Shifflett Wyant. In addition to his parents, he was
preceded in death by his first wife, Laura Jordan Wyant, and a son, Steven
Wilson Wyant. He is survived by his wife, Minnie B. Wyant; a sister, Nancy W.
Arnette of Charlottesville; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Wyant was a
World War II veteran and a member of Masonic Lodge No. 60, AF&AM for 51 years.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Teague Funeral
Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Moriah
United Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Brenneke officiating. Interment will
follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made in his honor to the
