ALMA WALTON GIBSON
Alma Walton Gibson, a lifelong resident of Albemarle
County, Va., was born on March 29, 1929, and died peacefully in her sleep on
Monday, November 14, 2016.She grew up during the Great Depression as the
youngest daughter of the late Sam and Myrtie Walton. Shewas also predeceased by
her three sisters, Eunice Batten, Lois Pugh, and Maggie Garrison; and one
grandson, Jareb David Gibson. Alma married her high school sweetheart, the late
William Arthur Gibson, and they enjoyed 62 happy years together. They raised
five children, David William Gibson and wife, Kay of Norfolk, Va., Donald Ray
Gibson and wife, Beth, Dennis Wayne Gibson and Mary Fox, Terri Gibson Morris and
husband, Scott of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Tracy Dawn McDonald and husband,
Matt. She deeply loved her 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She is
also survived by her in-laws, Herman and Frances Loose, Nancy Gibson, and Peggy
Gibson. She lit up the Greencroft Club with her incredible style, grace, and
hospitality for 28 years. Her generous spirit, infectious laugh, and poignant
stories will live long in our memories. She had many friends, including special
friends, Bill and Nancy Goodman, Kenneth Eugene, and Jean Varner. She leaves a
huge hole in the hearts of those who knew her, and she will be sorely missed.
The family will receive friends from 6until 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 17,
2016, at Teague Funeral Service. A graveside service will be conducted at 11
a.m. on Friday, November 18, 2016, at Holly Memorial Gardens. Donations in her

Alma Francis Walton, 76, of Manassas, died Sunday, March 3, 2002, at a Manassas
hospital. She was born in Washington, D.C. on Nov. 7, 1926, and was the wife of
the late Frank Walton. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Lynch and her
husband, James, of Stevens City; two grandchildren, Mary Thomas and Connie
Smith; and three great-grandchildren, Brittany Smith, Brandon Thomas, and Brooke
Jarwaski. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Prize Hill
Church, with the Rev. Sidney Craig officiating. Interment will follow in Prize
Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at
Teague Funeral Home.

Mrs. Alma Walton
BOONESVILLE – Mrs. Alma Virginia Marrs Walton, 54, died Sunday at her home here.
A native of Albemarle County, she was the daughter of the late Doc and Laura
Hord Marrs. Surviving are her husband, Ellis P. Walton; three brothers, Langford
Marrs of Charlottesville and Russell and Edward Marrs, both of Alexandria; and
four sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Walton of Vienna, Mrs. Pendleton Marrs of
Charlottesville, Miss Ethel Marrs and Miss Ollie Marrs, both of Baltimore, Md.
Funeral services will be 2 p. m. Tuesday at the Prize Hill Church with
internment in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m.
tonight at the Hill and Irving Funeral Home.

ANDREW M. WALTON
WALTON , Andrew M. ANDREW M. "ANDY" WALTON, 90, of Stewartstown, Pa., formerly
of Dundalk, Md., died January 15, 2009. He was the husband of the late June
(Beatty) Walton, to whom he was married 60 years; the father of Linda M. Hughes
and her companion Dennis Bowers, and Richard A. Walton and his wife Yumie; the
grandfather of Michael B. Hughes and his wife Katherine, and Kevin A. Hughes and
his companion Ruth Archer; and the great grandfather of Brett Hughes and Nicole
Hughes. Andy retired after 36 years of service with Bethlehem Steel at Sparrows
Point. He was a US Army veteran of World War II and was a former volunteer with
Meals On Wheels in the Dundalk area. Andy was an avid ping pong player, and he
enjoyed making stained glass items for friends and family. A funeral service
will be held at 11 A.M. on Monday January 19 at the J. J. Hartenstein Mortuary,
Inc., 19 S. Main St., Stewartstown, Pa. Interment will follow the service in
Gardens of Faith Memorial Gardens. Viewings will be Saturday and Sunday from 2
to 4 P.M. at the mortuary.

CARRIE BELL "GRANNY" WALTON
Carrie Bell "Granny" Garrison Walton, 98, of Crozet, died Sunday July 30, 2000,
at her home. She was born in Albemarle County, on Jan. 7, 1902, daughter of the
late Austin and Emma Batten Garrison. She was preceded in death by her husband,
Willie J. Walton. Mrs. Walton was a member of Mt. Moriah United Methodist
Church. Her life was dedicated to raising more than 34 foster children. She is
survived by two daughters, Carrie Coleman and Louise Shifflett, both of
Charlottesville; two sons Steward Walton of Charlottesville and Anthony Foster
of Greene County; one brother, Luther Garrison of Crozet; and nine
grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren. A
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 A.M. Wednesday at Mt. Moriah United
Methodist Church with the Rev. David A. Rash officiating. Interment will follow
in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 P.M. this
evening at Teague Funeral Home. The family suggest that memorials be made to
Hospice of the Piedmont, 1490 Pantops Mountain Place, Suite 200 Charlottesville
22911. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Frances Williams who was

Cecil L. Walton, 59, of Rt. 1, Free Union died Sunday afternoon at the
University of Virginia Hospital. He was born in Albemarle County May 10, 1918
son of the late Mannis B. and Maggie Morris Walton and was an employee of Acme
Visible Records in Crozet. He is survived by his wife Marlene Gibson Walton of
Free Union, four sons, Wade Walton of Charlottesville, Ted, Tommy, Ricky Walton
all of Free Union, three daughters, Rita, Connie and Bonnie Walton all of Free
Union, two sisters, Mrs. Effie W. Gibson of Free Union, Mrs. Violett McAllister
of Charlottesville, three brothers, Amos and Lucian Walton both of Dundalk,

DOLLY ANN WALTON
Edgemere resident Dolly Ann Walton died March 14 at age 95.
A member of the Church of the Brethren and a devoted Christian, as a young girl
she attended the Church of the Brethren Industrial School in Greene County, Va.
Born Dolly Ann Baugher in 1908 in Celt, Va., she was married to Armon G. Walton
from 1927 until his death in 1985. She will be missed by son James W. Walton,
daughters Gretchen Hall and Maxine Ciesielski, four grandchildren, six
great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and
nephews, daughter-in-law of 51 years Lillian Walton and dear friend Tom Walk.
She was predeceased by grandson Wesley Walton, brothers Ernest, Raleigh, David
and Sidney Baugher and sisters Addie Estes, Ruby Baugher and Lucille Sprouse.
Interment was held March 19 at Oak Lawn Cemetery.

DOROTHY MILDRED WALTON
Former longtime Dundalk resident Dorothy Mildred Walton (nee Shifflett) died at
the Genesis Franklin Woods Center in Rosedale. She was 90. Mrs. Walton, a native
of Green County, Va., worked at the tin mill of Bethlehem Steel before becoming
a homemaker. She lived in Dundalk for many years before moving to Genesis
Franklin Woods, where she had been for 20 months. Mrs. Walton was a member of
Dundalk Church of the Brethren and the church’s Sunshine Circle club. She was
preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Amos Walton, brothers George and
Roy Shifflett and sister Carrie Bruce. She is survived by daughters Gloria
Davies and Carolyn McCraw, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A
funeral service was held at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home on Feb. 13, followed by
interment at Gardens of Faith Cemetery.

BOONESVILLE – Mrs. Edith Walton Davis, 67, died Tuesday. Born in Albemarle
County, she was the wife of Ira Tucker Davis and a daughter of the late James T.
Walton and Lucy B. Walton. Mrs. Davis is survived by seven sisters; Mrs. Ruby
Knight of Boonesville, Mrs. Helen Hall of Crozet, Mrs. Nellie Ford of
Boonesville, Mrs. Sophia Young of Grottoes, Mrs. Pauline Corbin, Mrs. Alease
Bruce and Mrs. Kathleen Lamb all of Crozet, two brothers; Nelson Walton of
Boonesville and Raymond Walton of Westminster, Maryland. Mrs. Davis was a member
of the Episcopal Church and was a retired housewife. Funeral services will be
held at 3 p. m. Thursday at the Gentry Methodist Church conducted by Rev. James
Godwin and Rev. William Mengibier. The family will receive friends at Anderson
Funeral Home Chapel from 7:00 to 9:00 tonight. The family suggests donations be

Edith Mae Walton, 96, of Elkton, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at Rockingham
Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg. Mrs. Walton was born Aug. 27, 1907, in
Rockingham County, and was a daughter of the late Benjamin L. and Cora Elizabeth
Blose Ware. She was a lifelong resident of Elkton and had been employed at
McGuire Grocery and Blue Bell. Shewas a member of the Evangelical United
Methodist Church in Elkton. On Dec. 20, 1921, she married Fred Lewis Walton, who
preceded her in death July 13, 1992. She is survived by a brother, Owen L. Ware
of Durham, N.C.; a sister, Pearl Meadows of Elkton; three grandchildren; three
great-granddaughters and one great-great-granddaughter. The Revs. Alda Gunn and
Alvin Dovel conducted the funeral 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Kyger Funeral Home in
Elkton. Burial followed at Elk Run Cemetery in Elkton. Memorial donations may be

Edithe Walton Shifflett, 84, of Charlottesville, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004,
at her home. Born in Albemarle County on July 21, 1920, she was the daughter of
the late Edward Boyd Walton and Lucy Lamb Walton. She was also preceded in death
by her husband, Linwood K. Shifflett Sr. Mrs. Shifflett was retired from
Teledyne Avionics and was a member of Cherry Avenue Christian Church. She is
survived by her two sons, Linwood K. Shifflett Jr. of Ruckersville, Larry S.
Shifflett and his wife, Grace M., of Albemarle; a devoted and loving sister,
Mabel Harris of Charlottesville; four grandchildren, Shari Collier and her
husband, Mike, of Ruckersville, Susan Paige Shifflett, Benjamin Walton Shifflett
and his wife, Mary Allison and Steven Clore Shifflett, all of Charlottesville;
two great grandchildren, Chris Connor and Tara Connor; and several nieces and
nephews. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct.
18, 2004, in Holly Memorial Gardens with Mr. Harv Ayers officiating. The family

Effie Walton Gibson, 86, died at a local hospital Saturday, June 24, 2006. She
was born in Albemarle County on May 20, 1920, the daughter of the late Manis
Walton and Maggie Morris. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death
by her husband, H. Lloyd Gibson, February 13, 2006; one grandchild, Karen
Gibson; five brothers, Amos, Lucian, Harvey, Cecil, and Melvin Walton; and one
sister, Violet Walton McAllister. She is survived by two sons, Captain Ed Gibson
and his wife, Cynthia, of Charlottesville; and his wife, Mary Ann, of Crozet;
eight grandchildren, Tracy, Dana, Kristen, Justin, Eric, Kurt, Jordan, and
Sarah; two great-grandchildren, McKenzie and Taylor; a special sister-in-law,
Marlene Walton; and many special nieces and nephews. Effie enjoyed helping with
the maintenance of Prize Hill Cemetery and homecoming each year. Family suggest

ELLIS PRICE WALTON
Ellis Price Walton, 82, of Charlottesville, died Thursday November 13, 2003 in a
local health care facility. Born in Albemarle County on October 23, 1921, he was
the son of the late Henry and Margaret Shifflett Walton. In addition to his
parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Alma Virginia Walton; two
brothers, James Walton, Bill Walton; a nephew, Anthony Johnson. Mr. Walton was
retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation. He is survived by his
nephews, Roy Lee Johnson and his wife, Marie of Dyke, Marvin Henry Johnson and
his wife Ruth of Barboursville, Quinton Eugene Johnson and his wife, Pat of
Timberville; great nephews and nieces, Steven and Christine Johnson, Timothy
Johnson, Gina Coates, John Payne, Chris Payne and Tammy Doublestein; and a
sister, Elizabeth Anderson of Waynesboro. A funeral service will be conducted at
1 p.m. Monday at Prize Hill Church with Reverend Timothy Johnson officiating.

Fred Walton Bruce, 61, died Saturday, July 13, 1985 near his home in
Boonesville, Va. He was born Sept. 27, 1923 in Albemarle County. He was the son
of the late Harry Cole Bruce and Mary Virginia Walton Bruce. Surviving are his
wife, Leola Phillips Bruce; one stepson, Lanny Dwane Phillips, Fishersville,
Va.; one brother, Earl Bruce, White Hall, Va.; one grandson; and many nieces and
nephews. He was a spot welder at the Acme Visible Records Co., in Crozet, and a
member of the good Shepherd of the Hills Episcopal Church in Boonesville, Va.
Family suggests donations be made to the Western Albemarle Rescue Squad or the
American Heart Association. Funeral services are incomplete by the Anderson
Funeral Home.

George D. Walton, 69, of Boonesville, died May 2, 1963, at his home. He was a
son of the late Melvin and Angie Hall Walton, born in Albemarle County April 29,
1894. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nellis Shifflett Walton; a son Paul Walton of
White Hall; three daughters, Mrs. Tony Irwin of Biloxi, Mississippi, Mrs. Lionel
Martinez of New York City, and Miss Anne Walton of Boonesville, and five
grandchildren. The funeral was held Sunday at two o'clock in Prize Hill Church,
Boonesville, with burial in the church cemetery.

George E. Walton, 90 of 231 Stribling Ave., died Sunday in a local nursing home.
A retired farmer, he was born in Albemarle Co., March 20, 1890, son of the late
John E. and Annie Garrison Walton and was the widower of Bessie Florence Mauk
Walton. Survived by three daughters, Mrs. Mary Cahill, Miami, Fla., Mrs. Ella
Houchens, Charlottesville, J. Dempsey Walton, Oxon Hill, Md., Calvin M. Walton,
Richmond, 31 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren and five
great-great-grandchildren. Funeral at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Joseph W. Teague
Chapel, the Rev. Robert J. Donnelly officiating with interment in Mt. Moriah

George M. Walton, retired farmer of the Boonesville section died at 3:30 o'clock
yesterday afternoon at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Mary Shifflett on
Telegraph road, in Alexandria. He was native of Albemarle County, son of the
late Mr. and Mrs. George M. Walton, and was 73 years of age. He married Miss
Rosa Shiflett of this county, who died last year. Surviving are five sons,
Henry, Thomas, George and Roy Walton, all of Alexandria and Wills Walton, U. S.
Army; and eight daughters, Mrs. Lennie Garrison, of Hershey, Pa., Mrs. Etta
Shiflett of Churchville; Mrs. Julia Via, of Baltimore; Mrs. Ella Garrison of
Roanoke; Mrs. Mamie Walton, Mrs. Mary Shiflett, Mrs. Catherine Shiflett and Miss
Helen Walton, all of Alexandria. The funeral will be held at 4 o'clock Thursday
afternoon from Prize Hill Church at Boonesville, and interment will follow in
the churchyard. The funeral party will leave Preddy Funeral Home a 3 o'clock.

GRACIE GARRISON WALTON
Mrs. Gracie Garrison Walton, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother,
went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 16, 2006, surrounded by her loved
ones at the University of Virginia Medical Center, after years of a long
courageous battle with Alzheimer's. Gracie was born April 15, 1930, in Albemarle
County, daughter of the late Lairdy Garrison and Drucilla Frazier Garrison.
Gracie was preceded in death by her first husband, Benjamin M. McCauley Sr.; and
second husband, Nelson I. "Dick" Walton; a sister, Nora Garrison; and brothers,
Benjamin, Elmer, Laird, Reuben and Stuart Garrison. She is survived by her
beloved sisters, Lillian Frazier of Blackwell's Hollow, Virginia, Virginia
Frazier of Boonesville, Virginia; a brother, Samuel Garrison and his wife,
Gracie, of Culpeper, Virginia; beloved children, Benjamin M. McCauley Jr. and
his wife, Carol of Keswick, Virginia, Nelson W. McCauley and his fiancee, Debbie
Henry, of Charlottesville, Virginia, Linda D. Morris and her husband, Bert, of
Charlottesville, Virginia, Wanda J. Crawford and her husband, Kenny, of Dyke,
Virginia, Judy "Bucky" McCauley of Charlottesville, Virginia; beloved
grandchildren Brian "Keith" McCauley and his wife, Kim, of Keswick, Virginia,

Emily Walton; and numerous nieces and nephews. Gracie is also survived by her
special friend and caregiver Lucy McCauley of Charlottesville, Virginia. Gracie
was a long time member of Shady Grove Bible Baptist Church of Shifflett Hollow,
Virginia. Gracie was a very special care provider. Her door was always open to
those in need. She cared for her mother, several aunts and uncles for many
years. Gracie loved to sing and listen to good bluegrass and gospel music. She
loved to dance and was always full of laughter and love. She will be sadly
missed by all. A special thank you to her granddaughter, Sharon McCauley,
Jessica Walton and beloved niece, Lucille Norvelle. The family also extends a
special thank you to Carol Hicks, Dana Carter and Thelma Scott for the love and
care given to our mother during the past three years. A funeral service will be

HELEN MARLENE WALTON
Helen Marlene Walton, 80, of Boonesville, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on
Monday, April 21, 2014, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on September
22, 1933, in Albemarle County, to the late Henry T. Gibson and Florence Via
Gibson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,
Cecil Walton; four brothers, Junior Bee, Merrill, Jimmy, and Chestley; and one
sister, Opal Rouse. She is survived by two sisters, Thelma Smith of Birmingham,
Alabama, and Victoria Jones of Dinwiddie, Virginia. Marlene was a wonderful
loving mother who will be truly missed by her three daughters, Connie Morris and
her husband, Donnie, Rita Walton and her husband, Steve Barnett, and a devoted
daughter, Bonnie Bailey and her husband, Glenn, whom cared for her during her
lengthy illness; four sons, Wade Walton and his wife, Debbie, Ted Walton, Tommy
Walton, and Ricky Walton. She leaves behind six grandsons, Scott Walton, Erik
Walton and his wife, Crystal, Chad Walton and his wife, Rachel, Shawn Walton,
Wade Walton, and Darren Powell; one granddaughter, Crystal Hubbard and her
husband, C.J.; and 10 great-grandchildren, one of which brought a special light
to her heart, Zoey Hubbard. Marlene made Albemarle County her home for her
entire life. She loved playing cards, making apple butter and cooking for family
gatherings. She was a good friend to many and never met a stranger. The family
wishes to thank Dr. Benjamin Sneed and his staff at the University of Virginia
Third Floor East who were all wonderful to our mother and our family. We would
also like to thank the staff at Charlottesville Health and Rehab for their
kindness and care during her last days. A special thank you for her guardian
angel, Sylvia, for her wonderful care of our mother. Flowers are welcomed or

HAROLD G. WALTON
Harold G. "Walt" Walton, 67, died of cancer Nov. 12 at a hospital in Sumter,
S.C. Mr. Walton, son of the late Melvin A. and Pearl M. Walton, grew up in
Sparrows Point, attended Sparrows Point High School and served in the U.S. Air
Force for four years. After his military service, he started a long career in
the coke ovens at Bethlehem Steel, retiring in 1992 with more than 35 years of
service. He and his wife moved to South Carolina 10 years ago. During his years
in Dundalk, he enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Dizzy Pleasure
Club. An Orioles fan, he also liked remodeling his home, working crossword
puzzles and collecting Laurel and Hardy and Three Stooges memorabilia.
Predeceased by his wife, Bonnie M. Walton (nee Gosner), he is survived by
daughter Debra Lee Morris of Dalzell, S.C., sister Joyce D. Hafko of Seaford,
Del., brothers Huyette A. and Leonard S. Walton of Dundalk, three grandchildren,
one great-grandson and many nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements were

James Herbert "Herb" Walton of White Hall, Va., passed away at his residence
Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at the age of 77. Born in Albemarle County on Dec. 8,
1926, to the late Newall A. and Malinda Ralston Walton, he loved to hunt and
fish and was an avid gardener. He retired from the University of Virginia
Medical Center Maintenance Shop, he was also a veteran of World War II. He is
survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy S. Walton; a daughter, Sue Walton of
White Hall; three sons; Mike of White Hall and Tim Walton of Crozet, Jeff and
his wife, Robin, of White Hall, two loving grandchildren, Ashley and Brian

Ann Walton of Hampton, Va.; as well as many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in
death by six sisters, Annie Cook, Dolly Marsh, Lula Fitzgerald, Lucille Bass,

Joseph Boyd Walton, 64, of Route 631 in Troy, went to be with the Lord on
Friday, Feb. 14, 2003. Born Oct. 18, 1938, in Albemarle County, he was a son of
the late Nelson Eugene (Dick) and Vivian S. Walton. He also was preceded in
death by his brother, Eugene Walton, and his son J.B. Walton and his companion
of 20 years Glennis Cosner. He is survived by his three daughters, Kathy Jenkins
and husband William Jenkins Jr. of Ivy, Pamela J. Sinette and husband Jack of
Florida, and Annette Jackson of Roanoke; one son, Minor Melvon Walton (Binky) of
Greenwood; one stepdaughter, Tracey Cosner Duncan of Troy; two stepsons, Dillard
and Sidney Cosner of Troy; a very special grandson, Steven Boyd Allen and wife
Tammy of Troy; 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; cousins, aunts and
uncles too numerous to name; and his beloved black dog Rebel. Boyd was a truck
driver for most of his life. But his first love was horses; he always loved to
buy sell and trade horses, always loved to ride horses. He also loved playing
his banjo and playing bluegrass music with his musician friends. He touched many
people's hearts just by being himself and always a friend. He enjoyed being with
his family and friends, which there were many. He will be missed by all who knew
and loved him. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, at
Beaver Dam Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bruce Hunter officiating. Interment

Juanita Marsh Walton, 82, died Friday, January 26, 2007, at a local hospital.
Born December 16, 1924, in Rockingham County, she was the daughter of the late
Raymond and Thelma Armentrout Marsh and was the wife of the late Paul E. Walton.
Mrs. Walton was noted for her volunteer work at Western State Hospital for over
20 years. She was also a devoted wife, daughter and mother. Her love of cats
earned her the title of "The Cat Lady". She is survived by two daughters, Marsha
Walton Stratton and her husband, Ronnie of Charlottesville and Paulette Walton
Taylor of Midlothian; three grandchildren, Brian Taylor, Dana Taylor and Paul

Funeral services for Melvin Nicholas Walton, 45, who was found dead at his home
in Boonesville last Saturday, were held at Prize Hill church. Neighbors, who had
not seen him for several days, found his body on the floor with a shotgun along
side. He had returned from a visit with his wife and children at Hyattsville,
Md. about a week ago and neighbors believe his death occurred shortly after his
return. Walton was a native of Albemarle county, son of the late Melvin and
Angie Hall Walton. He married Miss Delia McCauley of Mission Home, who survives,
with two children, Joyce D., 10, and Mace E. 8. He also leaves three sisters and
four brothers.

Margaret Meadows Walton of Charlottesville, and a longtime resident of
Waynesboro, passed away on Dec. 25, 2008. Margaret was born in Page County, Va.,
on Sept. 12, 1925, the only daughter of the late William Dorsey and Mattie
Taylor Meadows. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Lewie, Alvah and
Howard Meadows; three half brothers, Clarence, Elmer and Earl Meadows; two half
sisters, Ollie Meadows Adams and Catherine Meadows Eppard; and, very recently,
her niece, Joyce Meadows McGee. Margaret was the widow of Richard Lee “Dick”
Walton. She is survived by three daughters and their families, Judith Lynch and
husband, Bill, of Charlottesville, Faye Sobel and husband, Ron, of Suffolk and
Gayle Mapstone and husband, Frank, of Waynesboro. There are six grandchildren,
Darren Lynch and wife, Ana Maria, of Charlottesville, Monica Lynch of Richmond,
Jason Goodloe and wife, Amy, of Fairfax, Blaine Swisher and husband, Paul, of
Chesapeake, Jared Mapstone and Jacob Mapstone, both of Waynesboro; and one
stepgrandson, David Sobel and wife, Sharon, of Fairfax. Margaret was blessed
with six great-grandchildren, Adalee and Amelia Lynch, Cameron, Emileigh and
Taylor Goodloe and Jacob Swisher. Also surviving are her nephew, Gene Meadows of
Waynesboro and her sister-in-law, Clara Meadows of Newport News. Margaret spent
her childhood years in the small community of Jolletts in Page County. She
graduated from Shenandoah High School in Shenandoah, Va., in 1942 and in the
fall she married Dick Walton. Following their marriage, they enrolled in the
Harrisonburg Vocational School. They both became certified welders to aid in the
support of World War II and relocated to Pascagoula, Miss., to work for Ingalls
Shipbuilding. Shortly after their arrival in Mississippi, Dick was drafted into
the Army Air Corps and Margaret returned to Waynesboro. At the conclusion of the
war, Dick joined her in Waynesboro, where they resided with their three
daughters and became active members of the community. While in Waynesboro,
Margaret was a charter member of Alpha Chi Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha,
retaining her membership for 20 years. She was a former member of the Waynesboro
Business & Professional Woman’s Club. Margaret worked part time at Waynesboro
Community Hospital and assisted with her husband’s business, Walton’s Esso
Servicenter. In 1975, she became a Realtor in Waynesboro, belonging to the
Local, State and National Board of Realtors. Margaret later moved to
Charlottesville and was a House Director for Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority at the
University of Virginia for 10 years. She was a member of the Shadwell Chapter of
the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of the Suffolk Chapter of
the Colonial Dames. Margaret was a longtime member of the Second Presbyterian
Church in Waynesboro and most recently was a member of Aldersgate United
Methodist Church in Charlottesville. Margaret’s greatest joy and the legacy she
leaves is her family. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and
great-grandmother. Her life was blessed in many ways; her family will continue
to celebrate her and keep her memory forever in their hearts. Margaret’s family

Mrs. Margaret P. Walton, wife of Henry Walton of Alexandria, died yesterday
morning in an Alexandria Hospital. She was a native of Albemarle County,
daughter of Mrs. Annie Norris Shifflett, of Boonesville and the late John T.
Shifflett. Besides her husband and mother she leaves a daughter, Mrs. Quentin
Johnson of Alexandria and three sons, Irving, James and Ellis all of Alexandria.

two sisters, Annie Cook of Afton and Mary Daughtery of Severn, Md.; one brother,

Mabel Walton Harris, 91, of Charlottesville, died Saturday, March 26, 2005, in

Melvin Walton, 67, of 9946 Pleasant View Drive, New Market, died Oct. 17, 1992,
at his home. Mr. Walton was born April 30, 1925, In Charlottesville and was a
son of the Late Thomas and Sarah Shifflett Walton. He retired as a service
representative with the Lindsay Cadillac Co. in Alexandria, where he had been
employed for 40 years. He moved to New Market from Falls Church two years ago.
He had served in the Navy during World War II. In 1952, he married the former
Lorraine Rice, who survives. Also surviving are one son, Dale Walton of
Springfield; one daughter, Susan McKay of Manassas; two sisters, Edna Frazier of
Afton and Estelle Barnette of Florida; one brother, James M. Walton of Florida;
two half brothers, David Morris and Edward Morris of Florida; and two

Mrs. Mittie Lee Walton, 87, of Route 5, died at her home (Pinehurst) Wednesday

BOONESVILLE - Mrs. Moretta Walton Shifflett died yesterday at her home here.
Born in Albemarle County, she was the daughter of the late Rose Shifflett and
George M. Walton. Her husband was the late Tom Lewis Shifflett. She was a
housewife. Survivors include two sons, Amos Vernon Walton of Vienna and Frank
Walton of Woodbridge; two brothers, Willis and George W. Walton of Alexandria;
seven sisters, Mrs. Julia Via, and Mrs. Broadus Shifflett of Alexandria, Mrs.
Loney Garrison of Grantville, Fla., Mrs. Alice Sparks of Boonesville, Mrs. Mamie
Walton of Miami, Fla., Mrs. Helen Walton of Lynchburg, and Mrs. Mary Shifflett
of Roanoke; a grandchild and a great-grandchild. The funeral will be at 2:30

The funeral of Mrs. Myrtle Blanche Walton, of Brown Cove, who died of broncho-pneumonia
at University hospital, Feb. 1, 1935 was held Monday afternoon from Prize Hill
church, near Boonesville. The service was conducted by Captain Moss who is in
charge of one of the mission fields in the Blue Ridge. Burial was in the
cemetery at the church. Mrs. Walton was a daughter of the late Bentley McAlister
and was 40 years old. Four children survive---Misses Eunice, Lois, Maggie and
Edna Walton all of Browns Cove. Mrs. Walton also leaves her mother, Mrs. Rebecca
(Shiflett) Walton; three sisters and four brothers---Mrs. Edna Roberts, of
Edmonster, Md.; Mrs. Alice Teter and Mrs. Laura Garrison, William and John
McAlister of Browns Cove; Richard McAlister of Free Union and Emmett McAlister
of Owensville. Mrs. Walton was rushed three miles by stretcher over icy
hillsides to an ambulance of the hospital while critically ill Jan. 29. She had
been ill for three weeks previous to her perilous journey which was made with
the aid of White Hall CCC camp boys and residents of her community. She never
improved from her critical state.

Vancleave, MS -- Myrtle Frances Martinez, "Aunt Fran," died peacefully in her
home on September 10, 2012, in Vancleave. She was born in Charlottesville,
Virginia to George Daniel Walton and Nellie Shifflett Walton. She had been a
resident of the Coast since 1977. After graduating high school, she enlisted in
the United States Air Force. Aunt Fran and her husband, Uncle Marty, enjoyed
working outside in the yard together. They created a beautifully, manicured
landscape. She was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Lionel
"Marty" Martinez; her parents; sister, Ethel Walton Irwin; and brother, Paul
Walton. She is survived by her sister, Anne Hawkes of CA; niece, Star Garnett
(Marcel) of Vancleave; nephews, Eddie Irwin (Angie) of Biloxi, and Pat Irwin
(Deborah) of Wiggins; great nieces, nephews; and great- great nieces and

Nellie Walton Ford, 88, of Boonesville died Wednesday, July 16, 2003 at the
University of Virginia Hospital. Born January 15, 1915, she was the daughter of
the late James Thomas Walton and Lucy Rubush Walton. She was also preceded in
death by her husband, Joseph Walton Ford; five sisters, Ruby Walton Knight,
Sophie Walton Young, Edith Walton Davis, Helen Walton Hall, and Kathleen Walton
Lamb; three brothers, Minor Melvin Walton, Nelson Irvin Walton, and Raymond
Louis Walton; and two granddaughters, Sheri Ann Ford and Nora Ford Wilkinson.
Mrs. Ford leaves her devoted children, Wayne Keith Ford and his wife Mary Ellen,
Kathleen Ford Davis and her husband Dennis, and Karen Lee Ford; four
grandchildren, Deanna Davis VanDerveer and her husband Robert, Joseph Ray Ford
and his wife Virginia, John Patrick Powell, and Samuel Benjamin Powell; and
eight great grandchildren, Elizabeth Ashley VanDerveer, Sarah Kathleen Walton
VanDerveer, Joseph Tanner Ford, Keith Aaron Ford, Kenneth Mark Wilkinson, II,
Whitney Nicole Wilkinson, and Elizabeth Mae Wilkinson. She will also be mourned
by her beloved sisters, Pauline Walton Corbin and Alease Walton Bruce; her
sister-in-law, Vertie Ford Powers; her many very dear nieces, nephews, cousins,
and friends. By all, she will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her endless
capacity for love, her wonderful sense of humor, and her abiding faith in God.
Mrs. Ford graduated from Blue Ridge School in 1932. She attended Nyack College
in Nyack, New York and the University of Virginia. She graduated from Episcopal
College in Philadelphia, Pa. While in Philadelphia, she began her career in
service to others as a social worker in the inner city. A lifelong member of the
Episcopal Church, she devoted much of her life to teaching and caring for the
people she loved in the rural areas of Greene and Madison Counties. In the early
1940's she and her husband Joe, with the assistance of their dear friend Bishop
W. Roy Mason, established St. Davids Episcopal Mission on Wyatt's Mountain in
Greene County, where she served as teacher, social worker, and close friend to
all. Also dear to her heart were the years she spent at the University of
Virginia Hospital, where she was a medical social worker from 1962 until her
retirement in 1978. From 1969 until her retirement, Mrs. Ford was also Clinical
Instructor in Medicine and Clinical Instructor in Family and Community Medicine
in the University of Virginia School of Medicine. The family wishes to thank the
doctors, nurses, and staff at the University of Virginia Hospital, the UVA
Primary Care Center, and home health care nurse, Jackie Gentry, for the capable
and loving care extended to Mrs. Ford during her illness. Funeral services will
be held at Prize Hill Cemetery Chapel at 2 p.m. today, with the Rev. Peter T.

Opal Walton, 77, of Free Union, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at her home. Born

addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother,

Raymond Louis Walton, 82, of Westminster, Md., died April 18, 2001, at the
Carroll County General Hospital in Westminster. Born Sept. 7, 1918, in
Charlottesville, he was a son of the late James T. and Lucy B. Rubush Walton. He
was the husband of Ruby Shifflett Walton. He was a lumberman and owner and
operator of the Raymond L. Walton Lumber Company in Woodbine, Md. for 50 years.
Mr. Walton was a sergeant in the U.S. Army, serving in Europe in World War II
with Patton's Third Army, 4th Armored Division. He was among the first troops to
relieve the 101st Airborne in the besieged town of Bastogne during the Battle of
the Bulge. He was a respected member of the National Hardwood Association, and
enjoyed his family, hunting, fishing, baseball and football. He was of the
Episcopal faith. Surviving him, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Faithe
W. Stem of Taylorsville, Md.; a son and daughter-in-law, Steven G. and Patricia
Ann Walton of Hampstead, Md.; sisters Alease Bruce of Nortonsville, Nellie Ford
of Boonesville, and Pauline Corbin of Crozet; grandchildren, Michael H. Stem Jr.
and his wife, Athena, and Victoria Rose Walton; step grandchildren, Jessica and
Jonathan Clarke; great-grandchildren, Anthony W., Nicholas W., and Christopher
C. Stem; and numerous nieces and nephews in Virginia. He was preceded in death
by his sisters, Helen Hall, Cathleen Lamb, Sophie Young, Edith Davis, and Ruby

Rosa A. E. Walton, formerly of Crozet, died Saturday, July 14, 2007, at Sentara
Care Plex Hospital in Hampton, Virginia. She was born on July 25, 1931, in
Muncher, Germany to the late Adam Frochler and Anna Karl Frochler. Rosa was
preceded in death by her husband of 46 plus years, Edward Nelson Walton. She
lived and worked in Crozet, Virginia before moving to Hampton, where she lived
for many years. In Hampton she worked at The Thrift shop on Langley Air Force
Base. She leaves to mourn her death, two sisters-in law, Mary Daughtry of

Ruby Walton Knight, 85, of Boonesville died Monday, May 13, 1991, at her home.
Born Dec. 28, 1905, she was a daughter of the late James Thomas and Lucy Rubush
Walton. Mrs. Knight was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil R. Knight; a
sister, Edith W. Davis; and three brothers, Minor M. Walton, Nelson E. Walton
and Baby Joe Walton. Mrs. Knight is survived by one foster daughter, Vergie
Spears, and 10 foster sons, Lawrence and Sanford Kephart, William, Robert and
John Spears and Frank Gibson, all at home, Richard Garrison of Baltimore, Md.,
Charles Knight of Shenandoah, Jackie Via of Grottoes and Bobby Ray Knight of
Alexandria. She is also survived by six sisters, Helen W. Hall, Pauline W.
Corbin and Kathleen W. Lamb, all of Crozet, Nellie W. Ford and Alease W. Bruce,
both of Boonesville and Sophie W. Young of Mt. Crawford, and one brother,
Raymond L. Walton of Westminister, Md. Mrs. Knight had no children of her own,
however, in the past four decades, she and her late husband opened their homes
and hearts to 35 boys and one girl who were in the care. Mrs. Knight, a lifelong
member of the Episcopal Church, was a 1925 graduate of Blue Ridge School. She
received her higher education from the University of Virginia. From the late
1920s through the 1030s, she taught in public and Episcopal Mission Schools at
Prize Hill, Blackwell’s Hollow, Wyatt’s Mountain, Gentry Elementary, Mutton
Hollow, Haneytown, Simmons Gap, Bacon Hollow and Corbin Hollow in Madison
County. Mrs. Knight spent her life teaching and ministering to the people she
loved in rural Greene and Madison counties. She was instrumental in having the
schools in many rural areas accredited by the State Board of Education. She was
also instrumental in getting the roads in many formerly inaccessible areas
upgraded and taken into the state road maintenance system. In addition, her
efforts brought electricity and better health care to many isolated communities
where she served. In the mid-1940s, she and her husband, with the assistance of
their beloved Bishop W. Roy Mason, established Christ Church Episcopal Mission
on High Top Mountain, Greene County, where she served as teacher, minister,
social worker and friend until her retirement from service in the Episcopal
Church in 1956. She ended her teaching career at the Dyke Public Elementary
School, Greene County, where she taught children and grandchildren of many of
her former students. Following her retirement from teaching, she returned to her
home community in Boonesville, where she continued to care for foster children.
She will be remembered as a gentle person who loved the Lord and her fellow man.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 16, in Prize Hill Church,
Boonesville. The Rev. Alexander Livesay, the Rev. Merle Beacny and the Rev.
Herbert Parker will preside. The family will receive friends at Teague Funeral

Ruth Jeanette Sadler, 76, of Charlottesville, Va., passed
peacefully from this world on Sunday, January 14, 2018, surrounded by her three
sons. Born on June 9, 1941, in Charlottesville, Jeanette was the daughter of the
late Harvey and Helen Walton, also of Charlottesville. She was one of 11
children. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband
of 41 years, Fredrick Allen Sadler Jr.; two brothers and one sister. She is
survived by three sons, Dennis Flint, Burke Zimmerman and his wife, Lisa, and
Kevin Zimmerman and his wife, Jackie, all of Charlottesville; six grandchildren;
five great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and two very special
caregivers, her sister, Brenda Payne, and in Jeanette's words, her best friend
and niece, Tabby Payne. Jeanette loved to play Bingo and was full of spunk,
often called a little spit fire. She always kept her sense of humor, even
throughout the last few months when her health was declining. The family will

Ruth Mildred Walton, 92, of Timberville, died Dec. 16, 2006, at Life Care Center
of New Market. She was born June 17, 1914, in Rockingham County, and was a
daughter of the late William and Virginia Fansler Wean. She was a member of
Rader Lutheran Church in Timberville, where she taught Sunday School and
belonged to the Lutheran Church Women. She retired from Rockingham Poultry. She
also had worked at Bowers Packing Shed in Timberville and was a seamstress for a
number of years. On July 6, 1935, she married Charles L. Walton, who preceded
her in death on Nov. 22, 1963. She is survived by a daughter, Nancy W. Drury of
Harrisonburg; a son and daughter-in-law, Buddy R. and Myrt Walton of
Timberville; a sister, Wilda Fulk of Broadway; four grandchildren and their
spouses, Darren and Diana Drury, Ramona Messenger, Tim and Diane Walton, Dwight
and Theresa Walton; and four great-grandchildren. Pastors Bernard Fuska and John
Yeich will conduct a funeral service Tuesday 11 a.m. at Rader Lutheran Church.

CROZET - Samuel Watts Walton died here Saturday. He was 71. A member of Browns

Steward Elma Walton of Charlottesville, passed away peacefully in his sleep at
his home with his devoted wife of 63 years, Natalie, by his side on Friday,
February 10, 2012. He was born in Albemarle County, son of the late William J.
"Willie" and Carrie Garrison "Granny" Walton. In addition to his parents, he was
preceded in death by a sister, Carrie B. Coleman. He is survived by his loving
and devoted family; wife, Natalie Clarke Walton; daughter, Suzanne W. Barrell,
her husband Herbert "Bert" Barrell, and their sons, Nickalus, his fiance, Audrey
Reed, Mack and Miles Barrell; his sisters-in-law, Frances Clarke Taylor, Frances
H. Clarke and Agnus K. Clarke; a sister, Louise W. Shifflett; a brother, Anthony
Foster; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He was a member
of Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church in White Hall, the U.S. Navy Cruiser
Association, the U.S. Navy Memorial, the United American Mechanics Council #166
in Free Union and the VFW. He served his country proudly during World War II in
the Pacific while aboard the Light Cruiser USS Biloxi CL80. From 1943 until
1946, they received nine Bronze Battle Stars. A funeral service will be
conducted 11 a.m. Monday February 13, 2012, at Mt. Moriah United Methodist
Church with the Reverend Won Un officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Moriah
Cemetery. A reception to celebrate his life will follow in the church social

SUZANNE WALTON BARRELL
Suzanne Walton Barrell, 49, entered into the arms of Jesus on Monday, September
2, 2013, while surrounded by her family. She was a loving wife, mother,
daughter, and friend to all. She knew no strangers and dedicated her life to
caring for those around her. As a Registered Nurse, Suzy spent many years
fulfilling her calling in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the University of
Virginia Medical Center. She also spent many years as an Emergency Room nurse,
as well as assisting many patients at Martha Jefferson Hospital's Reproductive
Medicine and Surgery Center. As a healer, she touched many young lives and
dedicated her time to making others more comfortable. Suzy was preceded in death
by her father, Steward E. Walton; her grandfather, Willie Walton; her
grandmother, Carrie "Granny" Walton; and her father-in-law, Herbert C. Barrell.
She is survived by her husband, Herbert M. Barrell; her children, Nick Barrell
and his wife, Audrey, Mack Barrell, and Miles Barrell; her mother, Natalie C.
Walton; mother-in-law, Mary Frances Barrell; three sisters-in-law, Margaret,
Jane, and Barbara Barrell; a niece, Kelly Nauert and her husband, James; a
nephew, Scott Eckes and his wife, Emily; three Godchildren, Hunter, Ashley and
Austin Shaver; and countless dear friends. The family will receive friends on
Thursday, September 5, 2013, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Teague Funeral Service. A
memorial service to celebrate her life will be conducted 10 a.m. Friday,
September 6, 2013, at Mount Moriah Methodist Church in White Hall. The family
would like to thank everyone who responded from Western Albemarle Rescue Squad,
Crozet Volunteer Fire Department, and the medical team in charge of her care at

BOONESVILLE - Thomas Walton, 66, of Boonesville, died Thursday at Sheridan
Nursing Home at Kent Store, Fluvanna County. He was born in Albemarle County,
son of the late George and Rosie Via Walton. He is survived by two sons, James
Walton of Baltimore, Md., and Melvin Walton of Falls Church; three daughters,
Mrs. Edna Frazier of Afton, and Mrs. Pearl Angel and Mrs. Estelle Barnett, both
of Baltimore; four brothers, Henry Walton of Boonesville, and Roy Walton, George
Walton and Willis Walton, all of Alexandria; and seven sisters, Mrs. Effie
Shifflett of Boonesville, Mrs. Mary Via of Roanoke, Miss Helen Walton of
Lynchburg, Mrs. Price Garrison of Pennsylvania, and Mrs. Katherine Shifflett,
Mrs. Ella Sparks and Mrs. Judy Via, all of Alexandria. A funeral service will be
held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Prize Hill Church at Boonesville, with burial in the
church cemetery.

VIVIAN SHIFFLETT WALTON
Vivian Shifflett Walton, 68, died Feb. 15, 1989, at her home in Crozet. She was
born Dec. 27, 1920, in Albemarle County, daughter of the late Cornelious F.
Shifflett and Nellie Florence Shifflett. She was also preceded in death by her
husband Nelson E. Walton. She is survived by a son Boyd Walton of Troy; four
sisters, Ethel Shifflett of Crozet, Ellen Kendall of Baltimore, Lena R.
Babington of Baltimore and Della Hensley of Elkton; a brother Walter Shifflett
of Charlottesville; five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was
employed with Acme Visible Records Co. in Crozet. The family will receive
friends from 7 to 8 tonight at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral
services will be 2 p. m. Saturday at the Prize Hill Church in Boonesville.
Interment will be in the church cemetery with Dr. Roy Thomas officiating.

WADE H. WALTON
Wade H. Walton, 51, of Dundalk, Md. died Wednesday morning at his home. He was
born in Albemarle County, Jan. 11, 1922, son of Maude S. Walton of Simpson, W.
Va. and the late Bryce Walton. He was a World War II army veteran and a retired
employee of the Dundalk Buss Lines. In addition to his mother, he is survived by
two brothers, Burnes Walton of Dundalk, Forrest Walton of Charlottesville; three
sisters, Carletta Sullivan of Elkton, Hazel Graham of Dundalk, Genieve Hustead
of Simpson, W. Va. and was precede in death by two brothers, Claude "Pete"
Walton and Bryce Walton, Jr. Funeral service 1 p.m. Saturday at Prize Hill
Church, the Rev. C. C. Kurtz officiating with burial in the church cemetery. The
family will receive friends 7 to 8 Friday evening at the Joseph W. Teague
Funeral Home.

WALTON DAVIS MORRIS
Walton Davis Morris Sr., 76, of Earlysville, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, at his
home. He was born Nov. 15, 1925, in Orange County, son of the late Robert and
Elsie Wood Morris. After graduating from Crozet High School in 1942, he fought
throughout World War II in the Pacific with the U.S. Navy and then the Marines.
He was wounded several times in the Battle of Iwo Jima. He continued his
military career after the war, managing regional medical laboratories in several
posts and retiring from the Army after twenty years of service. He then began a
business career as one of the founders of National Clinical Services
Laboratories, Inc., one of the nations first automated and computerized
commercial medical laboratories. Later, he raised cattle, corn, and soybeans as
the owner of several farms near Scottsville. He is survived by his wife, Sophie
Morris of Earlysville; one son, Walton D. Morris Jr.; one daughter, Gwynndolynn
R. Berkowitz, both of Charlottesville; five grandchildren; and his brothers,
Robert Morris of Crozet, and Ronald Morris of Burlington, N.C. The family wishes
to express gratitude to Dr. Richard Stewart and his staff, especially nurse,
Beth Fitzgerald, and to the Hospice of the Piedmont, especially Linnea Thackston
and Aida Chambers, for their kind care and support. In lieu of flowers, the
family suggests memorial contributions to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1490 Pantops
Mountain Place, Suite 200, Charlottesville, Va. 22911. A graveside service will
be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in Rockgate Cemetery, Crozet. Anderson Funeral

WILLIAM M. WALTON
William Melton "Willie" Walton, 75, of Crozet, died Thursday, May 16, 1996. Born
Feb. 17, 1921 in Mechums River, he was the son of the late Newell Austin Walton
and Malinda Ralston Walton. He was the husband of the late Stella Morris Walton.
Willie drove his cab for 40 years with Paces Cab, Yellow Cab and on his own. He
served his country in World War II with the U.S. Army. Survivors include two
sons, William "Bill" Walton Jr. Of Salem, Ill; Kenneth "Kenny" Walton and his
wife, Linda, of Plattsmouth, Nev.; one daughter, Florence "Flossie" Hawley and
her husband, Butch, of Crozet; four sisters, Annie Cooke of Afton, Nellie "Dot"
McCauley of Laurel, Md., and Marie Morris and her husband, "Bill," of Crozet;
two brothers, Edward Walton of Hampton and James "Herb" Walton of Whitehall;
nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many friends and neighbors who will
greatly miss him. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at the
Teague chapel with the Rev. David Collier officiating. Interment will follow at
Mountain Plain Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5
to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Teague Funeral Home is in charge of
arrangements.

William "Bill" Melton Walton, Jr., 76, of Salem, passed away Friday, October 2,
2020 at his home. He was born June 9, 1944 in Charlottesville, Virginia, the son
of Stella Marie (Morris) Walton and William Melton Walton, Sr. Bill first
married Nanette K. Mott in 1977 and they later divorced. He met his future wife,
Mary Herrington in 1986 and they were married on April 1, 2005, and Mary
preceded him in death on October 30, 2014. Bill is survived by his children:
Todd Walton, Bonnie Walton, Becky Walton, Tami Lint and husband Lyle, Ronald
Schultz and wife Michelle, and Tina Dennis and husband Denny; several
grandchildren: Mackenzie and wife Lindsey, Emily, Eric, Paige, Steven, Jennifer
and Josh; several great-grandchildren: Landon and Hannah Schultz, Matthew
Landreth, and Audrey Drobny; a son-in-law: Adam Drobney; a brother: Kenneth
Nelson Walton, a sister: Florence Marie Walton-Hardey, several nieces and
nephews. He will be deeply missed by his special friends and neighbors: Ken
Sims, Kenny and Judy King, Bob and Paula Travis and Chuck and Karen Tinsley. He
was preceded in death by his parents: Stella and William, wife: Mary, and a
daughter: Theresa Drobney. Many may have known Bill by his nickname, Hammerhead,
while he drove his truck for United Moving, CRST, Keelber. He later did
construction for Ray Black, Doug Bredar and Kenny Carpenter. Bill loved NASCAR,
football and grilling some good ole smoked cabbage. Bill cherished the time he
spent with his family and friends. Per Bill's wishes cremation rites will be
accorded and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.

YETTE FLORENCE SHIFFLETT WALTON
Yettie Florence Walton, 86, of Stanardsville passed away Saturday, June 21,
1997, at her home. She was born March 10, 1911, in Greene County, a daughter of
the late Will and Betty Hamm Shifflett. Her husband was the late Delma F.
Walton. She is also preceded in death by three sons, Delmer Walton, James Walton
and Ronnie Walton. She is survived by two daughters, Maude Fenner of
Stanardsville and Ruth Morris of Free Union; a brother Elphis Shifflett of
Ruckersville; three sisters, Pansey Snow of Quinque, Mavis Deane of Ruckersville
and Edith DeVaughn of Orlando, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren;
seven great great grandchildren; and two special friends, Bernice Deane and
Linda Payne. Mrs. Walton was a member of Amicus Seventh Day Adventist Church. A
funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ryan Funeral Chapel in
Quinque, with interment in the Evergreen Cemetery. The Rev. Ron Goss will
officiate. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral
home. A special thanks to Dr. Gordon Morris and Hospice of the Piedmont. Those
