ARLENE SNOW LAMB
Arlene Snow Lamb, greatly loved matriarch, 92 of Ruckersville passed away
Wednesday, October 8, 2008. She was born December 30, 1915, to the late Eugene
Snow and Nora Knight Snow. She was a life-time member of Cedar Grove Church of
the Brethren and granddaughter of the late Reverend Henry S. Knight and his
wife, Annie. She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey J. Lamb; her
oldest son, Harold; siblings, Ruth, Helen, Lucille, Mary Geneva, Wilmer;
granddaughter, Dana; great granddaughters, Jessica Lee, Mariah Jade; and
son-in-law Coleman Snow. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Pat Lamm of New
York; two daughters, Joyce Nash and her husband, Edward, of Ruckersville, Janice
Snow and her long-time friend, David Harris, of Charlottesville; four sons,
Roger and his wife, Roberta, Allen and his wife, D. J., Kenneth and his wife,
Kay, and Gary and his wife, Bobbie, all of Ruckersville; two sisters, Lorraine
Meade and JoAnne Gallihugh, also of Ruckersville; 26 grandchildren, 47 great-
grandchildren, 21 great-great- grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews,
extended family, many friends and her church family. Arrangements with Ryan

ASBERRY D. SNOW JR.
Asberry D. Snow Jr., 68, of Charlottesville, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, at
his home after a long battle with cancer. Born April 7, 1937, in Greene County,
he was the son of the late Asberry D. and Mamie Snow. In addition to his
parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Aubrey Edward Snow. Mr. Snow
was retired from the construction business. He is survived by his daughter
Carolyn May Boyd of Waynesboro; one son, Wayne Edward Snow of Greenville; four
sisters, Zelda S. Handy, of Waynesboro, Merval Harlow, of Sparrows Point, Md.,
Olgene McDaniel, of Barboursville and Oneida Herring, of Earlysville; three
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and a very special friend, Dot
Hicks. A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m., Wednesday, Aug., 31, 2005, at
the Teague Chapel with Reverend Kyle Clements officiating. Interment will follow
in Holly Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m.,

BATTLE C. SNOW
Battle C. Snow, 56, died Thursday, September 11, 1969, in Veterans
Administration Hospital, Danville, Illinois. Born at Dyke (Greene County) on
June 30, 1913, he was a son of the late Alphonso and Martha Lawson Snow. Mr.
Snow was a member of Mt. Olivet Christian Church at Dyke and was a veteran of
World War II and received the Award of Purple Heart for wounds received while
serving with the 12th Infantry Regiment in Europe in action against the enemy on
June 9, 1944. He entered military service July 27, 1940 and was discharged from
the service on October 5, 1947. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Olivia Haney
of Ruckersville. A military funeral service was held on Monday afternoon,
September 15, at two o’clock in Culpeper National Cemetery. The Rev. Joe
Brummett conducted last rites.

Mrs. Edgar D. Snow
Mrs. Bettie Mildrew Snow, 61, of near Ruckersville, widow of Edgar D. Snow, died
Friday in the University hospital. She was a native of Greene county, daughter
of the late George Washington and Josephine Lawson Baugher. For the past several
years she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Collier in Charlottesville. She
is survived by three sons, Whitelaw Snow and Clingman Snow, both of Greene
county, and Harmon Snow of Washington, D.C.; two daughters, Mrs. S. T. Collier
of Charlottesville, and Mrs. P. W. Shiffett of Elkton; four sisters, Mrs. C. D.
Pribble, Mrs. R. C. Rice, Mrs. J. W. Bailey and Mrs. E. H. Trent, all of
Lynchburg; five brothers, W. W. Baugher of Lynchburg, Ed Baugher and Arthur
Baugher, both of Stanardsville, Junius Baugher of Strasburg, and Charlie
Baugher, of Germantown, Penna., and ten grandchildren. Funeral services were
held at 2 p.m. Sunday from Mountain View Methodist church, following by burial
in the Stanardsville cemetery. The Rev. George Waters, of Stanardsville and the
Rev. P. S. Burkett of Roseland officiated.

Accident Kills B. G. Snow
Buey G. Snow, 83, of Dyke, died as the result of an accident Friday morning on
Route 810 near Geer, when his pickup truck reportedly crashed into a log truck
driven by Raymond Oliver Shifflett of Geer. The injured man was dead on arrival
at Martha Jefferson Hospital, Charlottesville. He was a retired postmaster of
Dyke, and formerly a merchant and farmer here. The son of the late Early and
Eliza Kirtley Snow, he leaves his wife, Lucy Anne Vernon Snow, of Dyke; two
sons, Vernon A. Snow and B. G. Snow Jr., both of Dyke; five daughters: Mrs.
Eugene Adams of Charlottesville, Mrs. Velma Barnette of Silver Spring, Md., Mrs.
Lois Curtis of Ellicott City, Md., Mrs. Cornelia Mathews of Los Angeles, Cal.,
and Mrs. Ruth Alden of Charlotte, N. C.; two brothers: Clarence M. Snow of Dyke,
and Willie T. Snow of Alexandria; and fifteen grandchildren. Funeral services
were held Sunday, April 9th at two o’clock in Mt. Olivet Christian Church at
Dyke, with burial in Holly Memorial Gardens, Charlottesville. The Rev. S. E.
Madren, pastor of the church, officiated. Pallbearers were William Vernon,
Oliver Sullivan, Shearman Garth, Leon Taylor, Ray Snow, and Harold Herring.

Buey G. Snow of Dyke passed away at his home on Friday, May 28, 1999, attended
by his wife, Mary, with the loving support of his children and Hospice of the
Piedmont. B. G. is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Mary Buttner Snow;
and three children, Linda Snow of Durham, N.C., Marion Snow Woodson and her
husband, Robert Lee Woodson, Jr., of Fort Mill, S.C., and Joel Frederic Snow and
his wife Terri Fairchild Snow, of Dyke; five grandchildren, Kimberly Carpenter
Knight and her husband, Kent, Lori Leigh Carpenter, Robert Lee Woodson III and
his wife, Susan, Kari Lynn Woodson and Joshua Joel Snow; four sisters, Lois
Curtis of Ellicott City, Md., Eugenia Adams of Charlottesville, Cornelia Matthew
and her husband, John, of Vista, Calif., and Ruth Alden of Charlotte, N.C.; his
mother-in-law, Lucy Pearl Buttner of Charlottesville; many loving nieces,
nephews and close friends. Mr. Snow was preceded in death by his parents, Buey
G. and Lucy Vernon Snow; a brother, Vernon Ambrose Snow; and a sister, Velma
Snow Barnett. Mr. Snow was a lifelong member of the Mt. Olivet Christian Church
in Dyke. He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served in the Pacific Theater during
World War II. He was a former, retired postmaster, merchant and
jack-of-all-trades. B.G. served as a member of the first Zoning Board of Appeals
in Greene County. he was a charter member of the Greene County Rescue Squad. He
also was a charter member of the Dyke Volunteer Fire Company, served as the its
president and treasury and was awarded its first lifetime membership in honor of
his service. The body will lie in repose at Mt. Olivet Christen Church, now
United Church of Christ. Visiting hours will be from 6:30 to 8:30 this evening
at the church. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Olivet. The Rev.
Janet Legro will officiate. Burial will follow at the Christian Cemetery. Teague
Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements. The family request no flowers in
reference to B.G.'s wishes. Instead, they ask that your participate in acts of
Kindness toward another, visit a shut-in; provide food or shelter for someone in
need; be a good neighbor to all; forgive a wrong done to you. B. G. would like

CARL LYNWOOD SNOW
Carl Lynwood Snow, 83, of Elkton, died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004, at his home. Mr.
Snow was born July 15, 1921, in Greene County, and was the son of the late James
Morgan and Nettie Mae Smith Snow. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and
was a member of St. Peter?s United Methodist Church. He was employed at Merck
and Company and retired from the Plumbers & Steam Fitters Union, Local No. 10.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Catherine Meadows Snow, whom he married Dec.
27, 1939; three sons, Randell L. Snow, Carl Lee Snow and Eddie W. Snow, all of
Elkton; two daughters, Charlotte Davis of Elkton and Louise Williams of
Stanardsville; a sister, Ruby Morris of Shenandoah; seven grandchildren and nine
great-grandchildren. The Rev. Shirley Mercer and Pastor Don Meadows will conduct
the funeral 11 a.m. Thursday at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton. Burial will
follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg. The family will receive
friends from 7 to 8 this evening at the funeral home. Friends may also call at
the Snow home at any time. Memorial donations may be made to the Elkton Rescue

Cecelia White Snow, 78, of Charlottesville, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2006,
at a local hospital. Born October 22, 1927, in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the
daughter of the late Charles A. and Evelyn White. Also preceding her in death
was an infant son, Roger Snow; son, Myron H. Snow Jr.; and a grandson, Anthony
Snow. Surviving Mrs. Snow are her devoted husband of 63 years, Myron Snow Sr.; a
daughter, Linda Derrow and her husband, Richard; sons, Roland L. Snow and his
wife, Blanche, and Curtis W. Snow and his wife, Madeline; a sister, Doris
Fischer of Baltimore, Maryland; many grandchildren and great -grandchildren.
Services were private. Hill and Wood Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

CECIL SMITH SNOW
Cecil Smith Snow, 80, of Charlottesville died Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at his
residence. Born Jan. 25, 1918, in Greene County, he was a son of the late George
A. and Effie Knight Snow. Mr. Snow served his country during World War II in the
US Army. He was retired from Acme Visible Records in Crozet. He was a member of
Belmont Baptist Church and Charlottesville Moose Lodge #1068. A loving husband
and devoted father, he will be greatly missed by his wife of 60 years, Odessa
Lawson Snow; two sons, Willard Snow and his wife Sandy, Ronnie Snow and his
wife, Joan; a daughter-in-law, Peggy K. Snow; two sisters, Marie Morris of
Charlottesville and Odell Smith and her husband, Marcus of Earlysville; four
brothers, James Snow of Earlysville, Marion Snow and his wife, Cecelia, of
Charlottesville, Ralph Snow and his wife, Doris, of Earlysville, and Melvin Snow
of Charlottesville; a grandson, Jon; and many nieces, nephews and other family
members. Mr. Snow was preceded in death by his son, Wayne Ray Snow on his 80th
birthday. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p. m. Saturday at the Belmont
Baptist Church with Mr. Ande Myers and the Rev. George Reynolds officiating.
Interment will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends
from 6:30 to 8 p. m. Friday evening at the Teague Funeral Home. Memorial

GERRARDSTOWN, W. Va.—Mrs. Clara Ann (Granny) Snow, 69, died Tuesday afternoon in
Kings Daughters Hospital in Martinsburg. Born in Green County, Va., she was the
daughter of Genuf and Myrtie Morris. She was a seasonal worker for the
Musselman-Inwood plant of Pet Milk Corporation until her retirement in 1972. She
was a member of Gerrardstown United Methodist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of
the V.F.W. No. 896. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Anna Mason of
Gerrardstown; one son, Marvin (Pete) Snow of Inwood; one sister, Lydia Shifflett
of Charlottesville, three brothers, Sam Morris, Perry Morris and Earman Morris,
all of Charlottesville; one half brother, Clintwood Morris of Charlottesville;
seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services will be held Friday
at 3 pm from the Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. Burial will be in Pleasant
View Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this
evening and Thursday evening from 7 to 9.

DOROTHY SNOW WAMPLER
Mrs. Dorothy Snow Wampler, 89, a resident of 6136 Kemper Lane in Port Republic,
passed away following a brief illness at 1:20 Sunday morning, Sept. 3, 2006, at
Rockingham Memorial Hospital. A daughter of the late Henry Hamilton and Addie
Lee Geer Snow, she was born on May 24, 1917, in Stanardsville, Va., where she
lived until her marriage. She lived the majority of her life in Weyers Cave
prior to moving to Port Republic 12 years ago. Mrs. Wampler graduated from
William Monroe High School and had formerly worked at the Selective Service
Board. She was a member of Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren, where she was
a member of the Women’s Fellowship, the Dorcas Circle, and the Open Door Sunday
School Class. Mrs. Wampler enjoyed animal and bird watching, gardening, and
sewing. On Dec. 20, 1942, she married Earle L. Wampler, who preceded her in
death on Oct. 10, 1968. She is survived by one daughter, Bonnie W. Houff and
husband, Harry Lee, of Port Republic; three grandchildren, Julie Ann Pierantoni
and husband, Nathaniel, of Harrisonburg, Timothy "Tim" Christopher Houff and
Harry Lee Houff Jr., both of Grottoes. Also surviving are six
great-grandchildren, Jordan, Jonathan and Grace Pierantoni, Brandon Houff and
Hunter and Jessica Houff; a sister-in-law, Mildred M. Snow of Stanardsville, and
a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, and
two sisters. A graveside service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday at the
Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren Cemetery. A memorial service will follow
at 7:00 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Matthew Fike officiating. The family
will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 Tuesday evening at the Lindsey Weyers

ELIZABETH SWEARINGEN SNOW
Elizabeth Swearingen was born near Parksville, KY., on Oct. 20, 1837. She was
united in marriage to John L. Snow, Sept. 16, 1854 and came to Illinois March 1,
1895. She died on Sept. 9, 1920, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. I. Burke
at the age of 82 years, 10 months and 20 days. She had been in declining health
since the death of her husband, which occurred Feb. 1, 1920. During nine months
of illness she tenderly watched and cared for him. To this union was born ten
children, five boys and five girls, who are as follows: Geo. R., of Farmer City;
David G., of Heyworth; John J., Henry W., and Samuel, all of McLean; Mary E.
Maxey, of Moreland, KY.; Martha Hall, of Mount Salem, KY.; Margaret Burke, of
McLean; Tin Shifflet, of Atlanta; Betty Phillip, deceased. There are 76
grandchildren, and 82 great-grandchildren, one brother and a number of nieces
and nephews. She united with the Christian church in early girlhood. She was a
faithful Christian, a true wife and a devoted mother until death. The funeral
was held Saturday afternoon from the Christian church, with Rev. Roy A. Miller,
minister of the Waynesville Christian church in charge. The pall bearers were
John Burke, Lewis Snow, Henry Phillips, Clifford, Leslie and Fred Snow, all
grandsons of the deceased. Interment was made in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Ellie Frances Snow, 62, of Charlottesville, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2003,
at a Charlottesville hospital. She was born March 1, 1941, a daughter of the
late Samuel and Elizabeth Samuels Sholes. She is survived by her husband of 47
years, Conrad E. Snow of Charlottesville; four sons, Stevie Snow of
Charlottesville, Ronnie Snow and his wife, Margie, of Barboursville, Gerald Snow
of Charlottesville and Douglas Snow and his wife, Cindy of Palmyra; a daughter,
Elizabeth Tomlin and her husband, Nick of Crozet; three sisters, Betty Lamb,
Janet Deane and her husband, Elmer, and Shirley Dean and her husband, Elbert; 10
grandchildren, Amy, Brian, Robyn, Kim, Wade, Ashley, Wendy, Gary, Wayne and
Matthew; 10 great-grandchildren; and a number of loving nieces and nephews. Mrs.
Snow retired from Frank Ix & Sons. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m.
Saturday at Ryan Funeral Chapel in Quinque, with interment in Holly Memorial
Gardens. Pastor Jim Moretz will officiate. The family will receive friends from

Ellie Frances Snow, 62, of Charlottesville, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2003,
at a Charlottesville hospital. She was born March 1, 1941, a daughter of the
late Pearl Elizabeth Shaver. She was also preceded in death by a great-grandson,
Matthew Shaver II. She is survived by her father, Conrad E. Sholes of
Charlottesville; her husband of 47 years, Conrad E. Snow of Charlottesville;

Elmer S. Snow, 65, of Rt. 2, died Wednesday night at his home. Born in Greene
County on June 13, 1917, he was the son of the late Newman and Carrie Snow. He
was a retired carpenter, and a member of Evergreen Church of the Brethren.
Survived by his wife, Lucille Shifflett Snow; three daughters, Maxine Moneymaker
and Linda Marshall, both of Ruckersville, Faye Runkle, Charlottesville; five
sons, Elmer Junior Snow, Crozet, Elvin L., and Stephen E., both of
Charlottesville, Larry E., and Lonnie Snow, both of White Hall; one sister Leona
Lawson of Baltimore, Md., two brothers, Herman Snow, Charlottesville, Norman
Snow, Crozet; eight-grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services 1
p. m. Saturday at the Joseph W. Teague Chapel, the Rev. Earl Hammer officiating
with interment in the Mt. Moriah Church Cemetery.

EUGENIA SHIRLEY SNOW ADAMS
Eugenia Shirley Snow Adams died Wednesday, April 18, 2007. She was the widow of
G. Godfrey Adams. Born December 13, 1913, in Dyke, Virginia, she attended Blue
Ridge School, which at that time was an Episcopal Mission School. After
graduation from business school, she joined her father in retail business in
Dyke and was also the Postmaster there. In 1941, she married Godfrey Adams at
the Gibson Memorial Chapel of B1ue Ridge School in a ceremony performed by Dr.
George Pickett Mayo, founder and builder of the school. She and her husband
continued the business in Dyke until the close of World War II, when they moved
to their farm in Albemar1e County. In 1965, she joined the Realty Firm of George
H. Barkley (her mentor) where she became very successful, having sold many of
the outstanding estates in the area at least one time. Her husband joined the
firm in 1967 and together, not only covered the local area, but also sold large
tracts of land in Southwest Virginia and West Virginia. Mrs. Adams remained
interested in farms and real estate and maintained her license until her death.
Although active in Real Estate, she always placed the welfare of her family,
church, and community first in her life. She was a member of Church of Our
Saviour and was an Emeritus Life Time Member of the Blue Ridge School Alumni
Council. She is survived by two daughters, Ann A. Simms of Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania, and Shirley Eugenia Lewis (Shirley-Jean) and her husband, Ron, of
Charlottesville, Virginia; three grandsons, Steven R. Simms, Scott V. Simms and
Martin V. Simms; one granddaughter, Carter Browning Lewis; one great -grandson,
Kumar Simms; three sisters, Lois Curtis and Ruth Alden, both of Charlotte, North
Carolina, and Cornelia Mathews of Vista, California. She was preceded in death
by a son, Guy Martin Adams (Marty); a sister, Velma Barnett; two brothers,
Vernon A. Snow and Buey G. Snow Jr. and his wife, Mary. She leaves a number of
nieces and nephews whom she loved, cherished, and adored. A funeral service will
be held 1 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2007, at Church of Our Saviour on Rio Road,
with the Reverend David M. Stoddart and the Reverend Janet Legro officiating.
Immediately following the service, a reception for family and friends will be
held at the church, with burial later at Monticello Memory Gardens. The family
will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2007, at Hill and
Wood Funeral Home. The family wishes to acknowledge the care provided by Diane
Snustad, MD, and Suzanne Holroyd, MD, as well as the Department of Emergency
Medicine and the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Virginia

EUNICE SNOW DEHOOGE
Eunice Marie Snow DeHooge, 85, of Earlysville, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at
her residence. Born Jan. 23, 1919, in Greene County, Va., she was the daughter
of the late Guy Snow and Susie Gentry Snow. She was also preceded in death by a
brother, Meredith Snow. Mrs. DeHooge loved a simple life on the farm and her
family was her life. She was a member of Mount Olivet Christian Church.
Surviving her is her husband of 64 years, Retired MSgt., Dirk Gerlof DeHooge, of
Earlysville; three daughters, Anita Dunbar and her husband, Jim, of

Helen Louise Snow, 63, devoted wife and mother, went to be with the Lord on May
18, 1994. Born Aug. 15, 1930, in Greene County, she was a daughter of the late
James Ernest and Sarah Shifflett. Mrs. Snow was a member of Grace Baptist Church
and was a wonderful homemaker. She is survived by her husband of 44 years,
Melvin E. Snow of Charlottesville; three sons, Melvin Hank Snow and his wife,
Cynthia, of Troy, Roger Snow and his wife, Vicki of Charlottesville, Bobby Snow
and his wife, Charlotte, of Troy; two daughters, Nancy Shull and her husband
Charles, of Charlottesville, Gloria Singleton and her husband, Roger of West
Virginia; one brother, Ernest Shifflett of Charlottesville; a devoted
son-in-law, Bobby Buttry; and a devoted cousin, Peggy Shifflett of Earlysville,
whom Mrs. Snow loved as a sister; 11 grandchildren; and five
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Jean Huffman. The

Infant Suffocates Near White Hall.
A 14 Months-old boy suffocated at his home near White Hall yesterday when his
head got under water in a tub in the yard. James E. Snow, infant son of Elmer S.
and Lucille Shiflett Snow, was found by his mother with his head in the water
and his body hanging out of the tub, Dr. E. D. Davis, coroner, said this morning
that the death apparently resulted from suffocation rather than drowning.
Besides his parents, the child is survived by one sister, Maxine, and three
brothers, Elmer S. Snow Jr., Elvin L. Snow and Stephen E. Snow. The funeral will
be at 4 p.m. tomorrow at the Mt. Moriah Methodist Church, at White Hall, with
interment in the church cemetery.

James H. Snow, 87, of Stanardsville, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, in Greene
County. He was born March 18, 1914, a son of the late Henry H. and Addie Geer
Snow. He was preceded in death by a sister, Violet S. Douglas, and a brother,
Frank Snow. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mildred May Snow; two
daughters, Lisa Snow Meeks and her son, Callen, of Stanardsville, and Jean Snow
Gregory and her son, James, of Newport News; two sisters, Dorothy S. Wampler of
Port Republic, and Alice S. Estes, of Wolftown. Mr. Snow was a lifelong member
of Grace Episcopal Church in Stanardsville. He served as Vestryman and Senior
Warden. He was Past Master of Piedmont Stella Lodge No. 150. He was past
president of The Greene County Lions Club, and an active member of the American
Legion Post 128. He retired from Rural Post Services in 1976 as a rural carrier.
Mr. Snow was a veteran of World War II and was assigned to Cannon Co. 12th
Infantry Regiment during the Battle of the Hurtgen Forest. In Nov. 1944, He was
awarded the Bronze Star, for valor against the enemy. In Dec. 1944, he was
awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action at Bastonge, during the
Battle of the Bulge. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Grace
Episcopal Church. The Rev. Gary Baker will officiate. Interment will be in the
Stanardsville Cemetery, with Masonic Rites. In lieu of flowers, the family
suggests memorial contributions be given to the Greene County Rescue Squad or
the Grace Episcopal Church in Stanardsville. Pallbearers will be members of the
Greene County American Legion. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

James Monroe "JimRoe" Snow, 72, of Stanardsville, passed away Thursday, June 7,
2001, at his home after a long illness. He was born July 7, 1928, in Greene
County, son of the late Clarence and Mamie Garrison Snow. He was also preceded
in death by a daughter, Virginia Ann Snow, a brother, Hollis Snow, and two
sisters, Drucellia Lewis and Elizabeth Loving. He is survived by his wife of 49

Earl "Bub" Hindes, and a granddaughter, Julie Anne Breeden, all of

James Snow, 87, of Earlysville, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September
20, 2006, at the residence of his daughter and son-in-law in White Hall. He was
born July 11, 1919, in Greene County, to the late George Andrew Snow and the
late Effie Knight Snow. He was employed with Barnes Lumber Company and Better
Living for many years. He retired in 1985 from Frank Ix & Sons. He is a member
of Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren. He loved his cars, bluegrass and country
music, and the Dukes of Hazzard TV series. He will be greatly missed by all his
family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his
loving wife, Mary Ella Shifflett Snow; two brothers, Cecil Smith Snow and Melvin
Earl Snow; one sister, Helen Snow; and one grandson, Curtis Jameson Wood. He is
survived by three daughters and their husbands, Robin and her husband, Chester

John Quincy Snow, 77, of 103 Sterling Drive died Wednesday, May 20, 1998. A
native of Hart County, Mr. Snow was a son of the late John Vance and Roxie Ann
Shiflet Snow. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria Ann Snow, and a
son, Jimmy Snow. An Army veteran of World War II, he was retired from Newton
Mills, where he worked in maintenance, and a former auto mechanic. He was a
member of Nancy Hart Masonic Lodge 690, Cokesbury United Methodist Church, the
Men's Club and D.O. Chapman Sunday school class. Funeral services will be at 2

Jean Catherine Snow, 89, of Elkton, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008, at her home.
Mrs. Snow was born July 26, 1919, in Page County, and was a daughter of the late

United Methodist Church near Elkton. On Dec. 27, 1939, she married Carl Lynwood
Snow, who preceded her in death Aug. 10, 2004. Survivors include three sons,

Greene County, daughter of the late Alphonso Snow and Martha Lawson Snow. In
addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenny C.
Haney; one son, John Edward Haney; one brother, Battle Snow; a grandson, Jeffery
Wayne Haney; and a son-in-law, Marshall L. Watson. She is survived by two sons,
Kenny C. Haney and Randolph Wayne Haney; one daughter, Violet Haney Watson; four
grandchildren, Nelson C. Taylor and his wife, Robyn, Gary S. Taylor, Randy Haney
and his wife, Christal, and Amanda Haney Davis; four great-grandchildren, Craig
Taylor and his wife, Kristi, Kristen Taylor, Skyler Davis, and Madison Haney;
two great-great-grandchildren, Cameron and Dylan Taylor; and many other family
members and friends. Olivia was a member of Swift Run Baptist Church. She was a
homemaker who especially enjoyed cooking and gardening. She was a devoted wife,
mother and grandmother. The family will receive friends 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday,
January 10, 2009, at the Ryan Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2
p.m. Sunday, January 11, 2009, at the Ryan Funeral Home with the Reverend Mark

PANSEY MAE SHIFFLETT BAUGHER SNOW
Pansy Mae Snow, 85, of Ruckersville, passed away Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, at
Martha Jefferson Hospital. She was born March 29, 1916, in Greene County,
daughter of the late William and Betty Hamm Shifflett. Her first husband, Arthur
L. Baugher Sr., her second husband, Thurman Snow, an infant daughter, Sylvia
Dowell, five sisters, and a brother all preceded her in death. She is survived
by four children, Esther Rose and her husband, Ted, of Deltona, Fla., Arthur
Baugher Jr. and his wife, Margaret, of Ruckersville, Wayne Baugher and his wife,
Joyce, of Dyke, and Linda Bowen and her husband, Harry, of Ruckersville; a
brother, Elphis Shifflett of Ruckersville; two sisters, Mavis Deane of
Ruckersville and Edith DeVaughn of Longwood, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and 14
great-grandchildren. Mrs. Snow was retired from Blue Bell and had opened her
home to foster children and family. She was a faithful member of Amicus Seventh
Day Adventist Church. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the
Ryan Funeral Home Chapel in Quinque, with interment in Mitchell-Davis Cemetery.
Pastor Dean Ferrell will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8
p.m. this evening at the funeral home. The family suggests that memorial
contributions be made in her name to the Greene County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box
302, Stanardsville, Va. 22973. She is in the great hands of her father, her

RAY ONEAL SNOW
Ray Oneal Snow, 84, of Dyke, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at the
University of Virginia Medical Center, surrounded by his family. He was born
September 27, 1924, in Albemarle County, the son of the late Guy E. Snow and
Susie Gentry Snow. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a
sister, Eunice Snow Dehooge; and a brother, Meredith E. Snow. Ray is survived by
his wife, Barbara Eddins Southard Snow; a sister, Neva Shifflett and her
husband, Orvin; a brother, Hugh Davis Snow and his wife, Ann; and a number of
nieces and nephews. Ray was a veteran of World War II, having enlisted in the
Marine Corps in March 1943 and being honorably discharged in April 1946. He
served with the 6th Marine Division in Okinawa. He was a licensed land surveyor
for over 50 years, having received his "A" surveying license in 1950 and
receiving his "B" license a few years later. He was a charter member of the
following organizations, Greene County Planning Commission, Rapidan Service
Authority, Greene County Industrial Authority, Greene Hills Country Club, and
served as a Director for the Bank of Greene. Ray attended Mt. Olivet Christian
Church and a member for more than 50 years of the American Legion. A funeral
service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2009, at Mt. Olivet Christian
Church with the Reverend Craig Snow and the Reverend C. C. Kurtz officiating.
Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends
from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2009, at the Ryan Funeral Home. In lieu of
flowers, family requests memorial contributions to the Greene County Rescue
Squad, P.O. Box 302, Stanardsville, Virginia 22973 or the Dyke Volunteer Fire

Ruby Mae Morris Snow, 81, of Stanardsville died Saturday, April 15, 2006, at
Evergreene Nursing Home. She was born February 14, 1925, in Greene County and
was the daughter of the late Elijah Morris and Gabra Ella Knight Morris. She was
also preceded in death by a son, William Snow. She is survived by a son, John
"Randy" Snow of Mesa, Arizona; a brother, James L. Morris and wife, Thelma; and
sister-in-law, Margaret Morris, all of Stanardsville; a granddaughter, Ashley
Snow of Springfield, Tennessee; and a number of loving nieces and nephews. The
family would like to thank Eugene Holston, Tonya Lamb and all the staff at
Evergreene Nursing Home and the staff of Hospice of the Piedmont. A graveside
funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at Evergreene
Cemetery in Dyke conducted by Pastor Johnny Hartless. The family will receive

Ruby Mae Snow Morris, 79, of Shenandoah, died Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at
Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg. Mrs. Morris was born Jan. 17,
1927, in Rockingham County and was the daughter of the late James Monroe and
Nettie Mae Smith Snow. She was a homemaker and a member of the Fields United
Methodist Church in Shenandoah. In 1948 she married Kenneth Edward Morris; he
preceded her in death Oct. 3, 2004. Surviving are three sons, Steve J. Morris of
Lacey Spring, Gary W. Morris Sr. of Shenandoah and David J. Morris of New
Market; three daughters, JoAnn S. Hitt and Shirley Faye Morris, both of
Shenandoah, and Barbara Jean Cave of Luray, seven grandchildren and 11
great-grandchildren. The Rev. Stephen Creech will conduct the funeral 2 p.m.
Saturday at the Fields United Methodist Church in Shenandoah. Burial will be in
the Eastlawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg. The family will receive friends
from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton. Friends may also

RUTH SNOW
Ruth, the 14 months-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Snow, passed into the
great beyond early Friday morning, Feb. 16, 1923. She had been sick for some
time. While cutting teeth pneumonia developed and latter spinal meningitis. This
is the third child Mr. and Mrs. Snow have lost in the last few years, and great
sympathy is extended to them. Surviving are two brothers, Whitelaw and Cliongham
and one sister, Ruby. Burial was in the family burying ground Saturday
afternoon. Messrs, C. L. Bickers & Son were the undertakers, and Miss Makely
read the burial service. Another little soul has gone to its Giver and is
beckoning us on to that happy land. This innocent baby will never know the
trials and tribulations of life, and by the grace of God we can meet her over
there. The family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation to the family
of Mr. D. C. Deane and also to Miss Carrie J. Makely for their kindness to them
during the illness and death of their darling child.

University Hospital. A native of Greene County, he was the son of the late

Stanardsville, and Hollis and William Snow of Richmond; six daughters, Mrs.
Elizabeth Loving of Schuyler, Mrs. Drucilla Lewis of Grand Rapids, Neb., and
Mrs. Gyvia Morris. Mrs. Annie Tilman, Mrs. Lettie Hoover and Miss Dorothy Snow
of Richmond; two brothers, Asbury and Newman Snow of Stanardsville; and a
sister, Mrs. Frances Bickers of Quinque. A funeral service will be held at 2
p.m. tomorrow at Evergreen Church of the Brethren of Dyke. Burial will be in the
Christian Cemetery at Dyke.

Thomas Dwight "Pete" Snow Sr., 58, of Gordonsville, died Friday, February 15,
2008, at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville. He was born
August 1949, in Greene County, and was a son of the late Vernon Snow and Lillian
Breeden Snow. He was employed at Allied Concrete, an Army Veteran of the Vietnam
War and attended Knight's Chapel, Church of the Brethren in Barboursville. Mr.
Snow is survived by his wife, Marie Snow of Gordonsville; two sons, Thomas
Dwight Snow Jr. and David Andrew Snow, both of Gordonsville; one brother, Vernon
Snow Jr. of Greene County; and two sisters, Mary Clore and Emma Jean Clore, both
of Madison. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Crystal Faye Snow; and
a brother, Melvin Floyd Snow. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday,
February 19, 2008, at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Gordonsville, with
interment at Maplewood Cemetery. The Reverend Terry Jewell will officiate. The
family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral

TINA SNOW SHIFFLET
MRS. TINA SHIFFLET DIED MONDAY - Mrs. Tina Shifflet, 68, died at her home in
Atlanta at 10:40 a.m. Monday. She had been in failing health for several months.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Atlanta Methodist
church, the pastor, the Rev. D. J Geach officiating. Accompanied by Mrs. Ethel
Coddington, J. M. Dowdy sang "Home of the Soul" and "Rest for the Weary." The
pallbearers were Warner Snow and John Burke, of McLean; Lewis Snow of
Bloomington, John Kindred of Atlanta; Joseph Snow of Moline, and Theodore Miller
of Bloomington. Burial was in the McLean cemetery. Mrs. Shifflet was born Sept.
20, 1878 in Danville, Ky., a daughter of John and Elizabeth Swearingen Snow. She
came to Illinois at the age of 16 and has been a resident of Atlanta since 1918.
She was married to Levi Shifflet Dec. 25, 1898 in McLean. Her husband and five
children preceded her in death. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Alta
Blankenship of Atlanta; and Mrs. Elsie Baldwin of San Bernardino, Calif.; two
sons, Lyle and Burke, both of Atlanta; three grandchildren, a sister, Mrs.
Margaret Burke of Bloomington, and a brother, Sam Snow of Stanford. Mrs.
Shifflet was a member of the McLean Christian church, Whittier Rebekah lodge,
the Royal Neighbors of America lodge and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Vern Snow, 77, of Stanardsville died Friday, April 24, 1992, in a
Charlottesville hospital. Born Nov. 1, 1914, in Greene County, he was a son of
the late Pleasant Snow and Vertie Taylor Snow. He is survived by two daughters,
Emogene Clore of Orange and Mary Clore of Reva; two sons, Thomas Snow, Sr. of
Barboursville and Vernon Snow Jr. of Stanardsville; two sisters, Ella Meadows
and Realie Meadows, both of Elkton; four brothers, Ernest Snow of Elkton, Lewis
Snow of Florida, Wesley Snow of Alexandria and Cal Snow of Madison Mills; 10
grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a daughter,
Elizabeth Snow, and a son Melvin Snow. A funeral service will be conducted at 2
p.m. Monday, April 27, in Ryan Funeral Home, Quinque, with interment in the
family cemetery. The Rev. Wayne Moore will officiate. The family will receive
friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

VIRGINIA SNOW SHIFFLETT
Mrs. Virginia Snow Shifflett, 86, of Mt. Airy, Md., died Saturday, Feb. 22,
2003, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. Born Oct. 14, 1917, in Virginia, she
was the daughter of the late Ed and Rhoda Morris Snow. In addition to her
parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Walter Shifflett, who
died in 1993; two sisters, Bessie Baugher and Geneva Sussman; and four brothers,
Stewart, Tom, Walter, and Thurmond Snow. She lived in Charlottesville for many
years. After the death of her husband she moved to Maryland and lived with her
nephew and sister, Bessie Baugher. At the time of death she was a resident of
Pleasant View Nursing Home. Mt. Airy, Md. Surviving are one step-daughter, Naomi
Roberts of Charlottesville; two nieces, Gwen Phillips, of Edgewater, Md., and
Linda Bowen of Ruckersville; and nephews, Brenton Baugher of Damascus, Md., and
Douglas Baugher of Adamstown, Md. She will be remembered by many of her friends
and the staff of the Pleasant View Nursing Home. Memorial services will be held
at a later date in Charlottesville. Olin L. Molesworth Funeral Home, Damascus,

Virginia S. Shiflett
A memorial service will be held Sunday, November 23, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Prize
Hill Church for Virginia Snow (Genevive) Shiflett who died February 22, 2003, in
Mt. Airy, Maryland. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Randolph
(Walter) Shiflett of Charlottesville, Va. Both she and her husband were former
employees of Acme Visible Records in Crozet, Va. Her wishes to be buried beside
her husband in the Prize Hill Cemetery will be private. Services will be handled
by her stepdaughter, Naomi Shiflett Roberts, with Rev. C.C. Kurtz officiating.
In addition, she is survived by three step grandchildren; and nieces and nephews
both in Virginia and Maryland. A previous Obituary was in the Daily Progress in
February 2003. Family members will meet at the church with friends before the

WILTON ELBERT SNOW
Wilton Elbert Snow, 80, of Stanardsville, passed away at Evergreen Nursing
Facility Thurs-day, June 30, 2004. He was born in Greene County on Dec. 5, 1923,
a son of the late Lawrence E. and Mabel Morris Snow and was preceded in death by
a brother, Carrol Snow; and a sister, Ora Snow. Mr. Snow worked for the Virginia
Dept. of Transportation for 23 years before retiring. After retirement, he
enjoyed his hobby of farming and attending his cattle and spending more time
with his beloved family and friends. Mr. Snow is survived by one daughter,
Debbie Williams and her husband, Ronnie, of Stanardsville; two sons, Larry Snow
and his wife, Rae, of Ruckersville; Mike Snow and his wife, Debbie, of
Stanardsville; four sisters, Helen Dickerson of Ruckersville, Thelma Taylor and
her husband, George, of Ruckersville, Evelyn Lawson and her husband, Willard, of
Stanardsville, and Emogene Powell and her husband, Larry, of Stanardsville; one
brother, Floyd Snow and his wife, Nancy, of Stanardsville; four grandchildren,
Gary Snow, Lisa Deane, Jason Williams, Travis Snow and Taylor Snow; four
great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Brittany Snow, Ty and Avery Deane. A funeral
service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday July 2, 2004, at Mt. Vernon Methodist
Church, Stanardsville. Interment will be in the Mitchell-Davis Cemetery. The
family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at the Ryan Funeral
