Born in Rockingham County on Nov. 29, 1962, he was the son of Lena Mae Meadows of Elkton and the late Carl Jefferson Meadows Jr. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Destiny Faith Gregory. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his children, Jennifer and Justin, Dawn and Mike, and Austin and Ashley; his grandchildren, Isaiah and fiancée, Shannon, Jordyn, Abagail, Mikayla, Brianna, Jacob, Noah, Madison, Emma, Elijah, Codie, and Christian and a sister, Janet Meadows. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, 2022, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. Burial will be private.

Born in Page County on February 11, 1943 he was the son of the late Carl Jefferson Meadows, Sr. and Artie Lam Meadows. He was also preceded in death by a great granddaughter Destiny Gregory. He is survived by his wife Lena Mae Meadows; sons Carl Austin Meadows, Isaiah Nathaniel Meadows and fiancée Shannon Renee Shifflet, Jordyn Ray Meadows; a daughter Janet Mae Meadows; grandchildren Jennifer Meadows and husband Justin, Dawn Smith and husband Mike, Austin Meadows; great granddaughter Abagail Gregory and numerous other great grandchildren. Carman Edwin Meadows, 89, of Stanardsville, passed away Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at Martha Jefferson Hospital. He was born Sept. 15, 1911, in Greene County, a son of the late John Paul and Sarah Elizabeth Breeden Meadows. His wife was the late Cornelia Wood Meadows. He also was preceded in death by a son, James E. Meadows. He is survived by a son, J.R. Meadows and his wife, Betty, of Madison; and six daughters, Margaret M. Bracey of Madison, and Dolly Lam and her husband, Mack, Maxine Herring and her husband, Todd, and Hazel Williams and Lois Taylor, all of Stanardsville, and Judy Nicholson and her husband, Wayne, of Ruckersville; a sister, Juanita Godfrey of Charlottesville; and 30 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Meadows was a retired farmer and school bus driver. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Middle River Pentecostal Church, of which he was a member, with interment in the church cemetery. Steve Shifflett and Dayton Lewis will officiate. Clara Rebecca Meadows, 88, of Harrisonburg, died Aug. 11, 2008, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Meadows was born Oct. 14, 1919, in Hot Springs, Va., and was the daughter of the late Arthur H. and Flossie Mae Smiley Chittum. Mrs. Meadows moved to Harrisonburg at an early age and was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church. She worked at Virginia Garment Company for 14 years and Metro Pants Factory for 18 years before retiring. Her husband, Lloyd Edgar Meadows, preceded her in death on Nov. 28, 2006. Mrs. Meadows is survived by a sister, Irene Ruddle of Harrisonburg, and a number of nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Meadows was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth H. Rush, and two brothers, Herbert L. Chittum and Arthur B. Chittum. The Rev. Jim Grogan Jr. will conduct a graveside service 11:00 Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, at the Mount Crawford Cemetery. Cornelia Frances Meadows, 87, of Stanardsville, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 1997, at her home. She was born Oct. 22, 1909, in Greene County, a daughter of the late Robert E. Wood and Annie Lee Taylor Wood. She was also preceded in death by a son, James Edwin Meadows. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Carman Edwin Meadows; a son, J. R. Meadows of Stanardsville; six daughters, Judy Nicholson of Ruckersville, Margaret Bracey of Madison, Dolly Lam, Maxine Herring, Hazel Williams and Lois Taylor, all of Stanardsville; two sisters, Lorene Gibson and Louise Marks of Earlysville; 30 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Meadows was a member of Middle River Pentecostal Church and retired from Blue Bell Inc. A funeral will be held at 11 a. m. Friday at Middle River Pentecostal Church with interment at the church cemetery. The Rev. Joseph Lam will officiate. Delbert Jerry Meadows, 76, of Luray, died Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005, at Hawksbill Assisted Living in Luray. Mr. Meadows was born July 29, 1929, in Jollett Hollow, and was the son of Alfred Thomas and Crimora Meadows. He was a self-employed painter, and was of the Seventh Day Adventist faith. His wife, Daisey Weakley Meadows, preceded him in death. Mr. Meadows is survived by a brother, Frank Meadows, of Elkton; three sisters, Jean Snow of Elkton, and Velva Hughes and Iva Shifflett, both of Shenandoah; and a number of nieces and nephews. Dennis Chairman "Donnie" Meadows Jr., 64, of Elkton, made his peaceful transition April 18, 2011, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. Donnie was born June 12, 1946, in Harrisonburg, Va., and was the son of Dennis C. Meadows Sr. and Elizabeth Shifflett Meadows of Elkton. He was a 1964 graduate of Montevideo High School and was a member of Avis O. Comer VFW Post 8613, Shenandoah Moose Lodge 2176 and Massanutten Hunt Club. He served our country in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War with the 9th Infantry Division. Donnie loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, music and riding his Harley-Davidson. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Carol Hazelwood Meadows; two daughters, Vanessa Foreman and husband, Michael, of Katy, Texas, and Denise Meadows of Shenandoah; stepson, Christopher Nester; stepdaughter, Melissa Nester, both of Los Angeles; sisters, Barbara Dean and Carolyn Taylor, both of Elkton; three grandchildren, Lyndsey and Natalie Foreman and Evan Rudolph; nephews, Scott Dean, David Taylor, Timmy Taylor and families, all of Elkton; and a good friend, who was like a brother to him, David Kite. DENNIS CHAIRMAN MEADOWS SR.

Dennis Chairman Meadows Sr., 93, of Elkton, passed away Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018, at Sunnyside Retirement Community in Harrisonburg. Mr. Meadows was born Aug. 31, 1925, in Rockingham County and was a son of the late Frederick C. and Addie Lam Meadows. He was also preceded in death by his son, Dennis C. Meadows Jr., two brothers and four sisters. Dennis served in the Army during World War II and received various commendations to include a Purple Heart for injuries obtained during combat. He was employed with Merck and Co. and later worked for and retired from Sullivan Mechanical Contractors in Shenandoah. On June 21, 1944, he married Elizabeth Shifflett Meadows, who preceded him in death on May 10, 2017. He is survived by two daughters, Barbara Dean and Carolyn Taylor, both of Elkton; daughter-in-law, Carol Meadows; two sisters, Lorraine Shifflett and Leona Breeden; one brother, Fred D. Meadows; seven grandchildren, David Taylor, Scott Dean, Vanessa Forman, Denise Meadows, Tim Taylor, Melissa Nester and Chris Nester. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren. He retired from the federal government as a computer operations coordinator. He was a Methodist. Delores Jean Meadows, 67, 168 Kemble Spring Lane, Elkton, died Friday, May 7, 1999, at Page Memorial Hospital in Luray. She had been in failing health for several years. Mrs. Meadows was born Dec. 17, 1931, in Elkton, and was the daughter of the late Emery C. Offenbacker and Fannie Herring Offenbacker. She was a member of the Landmark Tabernacle in McGaheysville. On Nov. 12, 1948, she married Howard W. Meadows, who died Dec. 3, 1996. Surviving are three daughters, Janice M. Meadows, Port Republic, and Linda Breeden and Barbi Hensley, both of Elkton, one son, James E. Meadows, Elkton; 11 grandchildren; and four great. grandchildren. The Rev. Geraldine Thelma Meadows, 58, of Stanardsville, passed away at a local hospital on Monday, July 12, 2004. She was born July 12, 1946, in Orange, the daughter of the late Robert C. and Mary Morris Dennis. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ben Thomas and Walter Thomas. She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, James Wilbert Meadows; four children, James Meadows and his wife, Tina, Gary Meadows and his wife, Linda, Norma Jean Meadows and her fiance', Tony, Wilbert Lee Meadows and his wife, Melinda; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Allen Meadows and Jessica N. Meadows; four sisters, Gertie Shifflett of Orange, Barbara Jean Rickard of Ivy, Elizabeth Ann Lloyd of Barboursville, Janie Carolyn Sipe of Crozet; and one brother, Lonnie Thomas of Oakdale, N.Y. James was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War, and was a carpenter by trade. He attended the Church of Solsburg near Elkton. He is survived by his wife, Barbara A. Hensley Meadows, whom he married Dec. 6, 1969; sons, Christopher Meadows of Elkton and Kevin Meadows of Shenandoah; a granddaughter, Shyleigh Good; sisters, Janice Meadows of Grottoes, Linda Breeden of Elkton and Barbi Meadows of Harrisonburg; and a number of nephews and nieces. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Meadows. Born in Greene County, Virginia, Mr. Meadows was a retired carpenter and a past employee of General Products for 15 years. He was a member of Massaponax Baptist Church. In addition to being an avid hunter and outdoorsman, he played the guitar. Lloyd Edgar Meadows, 94, of Penn Laird, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2006, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg. Mr. Meadows was born July 3, 1912, in Rockingham County and was a son of the late Walter Y. and Ella J. Meadows. He was a pioneer in rural electricity and worked as an electrician for Shenandoah Valley Electric for 28 years before retiring. He helped build the Skyline Drive while working for the CCC Camps during the construction of the Drive. He was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Harrisonburg, and had previously attended St. James United Methodist Church. His first wife, Bessie Williams Meadows, preceded him in death. His second wife, Clara R. Meadows, survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Shelby Murphy of Harrisonburg; two sisters, Margie Moodie and Letha Slagle, both of Houston, Texas, three grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. The Rev. J. Jeffrey Butcher conducted the funeral Saturday at the Otterbein United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg. Lonnie Lee Meadows, 67, of Elkton, passed away Nov. 20, 2012, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Meadows was born May 28, 1945, in Rockingham County, and was the son of the late Floyd Elzie and Nora Ann Meadows. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Dean, and a niece, Brenda Williams. Mr. Meadows attended the Nortonsville First Mission Holiness Church in Dyke. He was a member of the Elkton Rescue Squad and the Elkton Volunteer Fire Company for nine years. He retired from Perdue in maintenance and loved hunting, fishing and woodworking and was devoted to his family. On June 21, 1986, he married Dorcas Shifflett, who survives. He is also survived by his son, Shannon and Melissa Meadows of Dyke, Va.; his daughters, Charlene and C.W. Sutherland of Shenandoah, Heather and Nathan Morris, Penny Meadows and Pamela Sims, all of Elkton; grandchildren, Charity (Pettal Puck), Carter, (Little Man), Olivia (Ethel), Khloe (Little Nikki), Kortney, Haley, Danielle (Tape Worm), and one on the way; sisters, Juanita Conley and Gary Bear of Stanardsville, Dorothy and Glenn Shifflett and Cathy and Cecil Shifflett, all of Elkton; and many nieces and nephews; special grandchildren, Tyler Morris (Buckshot) and Cassie Taylor; special friend, Gary Bear; special daughters, Nera Greene of Elkton and Crystal Taylor May of Shenandoah; and special brother, Grover and Burnette Mowbray of Mount Solon. She was born on April 21, 1931, in Madison County, the daughter of the late Jack Dorsey Meadows and Gladys Shifflett Meadows; and wife of the late Russell Daniel Aylor. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Junius Meadows, Orean Meadows and Jack Meadows. She was a member of the Oak Grove United Methodist Church, the church choir and the United Methodist Women's Society. She was a floral designer, a seamstress and a gardener. Death Followed an Illness of a Complication of Diseases at University Hospital. Funeral services over the body of Mrs. Mary Meadows, wife of Albert Meadows will be conducted this morning at eleven o'clock from her home at Goods Mills by her pastor, Rev. G. W. Chambers, assisted by Rev, C. E. Long. Mrs. Meadows died Saturday morning at ten o'clock in the University Hospital, Charlottesville. Death came to her at the age of sixty-six and followed an illness of some duration of a complication of diseases. The deceased was a member of the Brethren Church. Surviving are the husband and three daughters. Miss Fannie Meadows, of Harrisonburg; Mrs. Benj Pittman, of Waynesboro; and Mrs. George Shifflett, of McGaheysville. Pauline Winifred Meadows, 77, of Elkton, died Dec. 30, 2005, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg. Mrs. Meadows was born Sept. 17, 1928, in Page County, and was the daughter of the late David V. and Lena Taylor Meadows. Mrs. Meadows attended Jollett Bible Mission and the Bear Lithia Baptist Church. She had been employed by H.D. Lee Co., Broadway, Sleepwear Inc., Elkton, Sancar Corporation, Harrisonburg, and Bluebell Inc. in Shenandoah as a sewing machine operator. She also did volunteer mission work and organized the donation of clothing and household goods for needy families for 20 years. On April 27, 1946, she married Millard E. "Cowboy" Meadows, who survives. Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Earl Meadows and wife, Juanita, William P. Pearl Ware Meadows, 90, formerly of Elkton, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at Harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Meadows was born April 22, 1913, in Rockingham County, and was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Cora Blose Ware. She was a lifetime resident of this area and a member of the Elkton Evangelical United Methodist Church. She was employed at the Casey Jones Plant, the Hat Rack, and also did private duty sitting for a number of years. Mrs. Meadows was a member of the Jr. Order Women’s Auxiliary, the Rebecca Lodge, A.A.R.P. and Senior Citizens. She was a charter member of the Women of the Moose and a lifetime member of the Elkton Fire Department Auxiliary. On Oct. 19, 1932, she married Lloyd Eldon Meadows Sr., who preceded her in death April 7, 1992. She is survived by a son, Lloyd E. "Pete" Meadows Jr. of Elkton; three daughters, Margie Mundy of Waldorf, Md., Shelvy Jenkins of Shenandoah, and Janet Eppard of Elkton; a brother, Owen Ware of North Carolina; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She worked for the United States government for 28 years under the Department of Defense, where she was recognized for her work ethic. Sandy was a licensed practical nurse while working at Rockingham Memorial Hospital and was a beloved teacher at the Upper Room Christian Academy. She followed her passion into home health care, where she was a caregiver to many patients that were adored. Sandy was a member of Shenandoah Assembly of God Church. On July 18, 1981, she married David Lee Meadows, who survives. Mr. Meadows was born Feb. 22, 1939, in Page County and was the son of the late Bennie E. and Viola Lam Meadows. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Tony D. Meadows; brothers, Page Meadows and Wilton Meadows; and a sister, Yvonne Strickler. Mr. Meadows enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and loved to paint and gather Moral mushrooms. He retired from Kawneer after many years of service. On June 6, 1959, Mr. Meadows married Loraine Shifflett Meadows, who survives. He was a member of Beulah Baptist Church, Kents Store. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his grandchildren. An avid outdoorsmen, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Tony Delane Meadows, 59, of Elkton, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville. Mr. Meadows was born Jan. 7, 1960, in Harrisonburg, Va., and was a son of Sheldon and Loraine Shifflett Meadows, who survive. Tony graduated from Elkton High School in 1977 and was a member of New Beginning Holiness Ministry in Grottoes. He enjoyed playing Bluegrass with his friends at Tuesday Night Jam at the Elkton Community Center, where he played guitar, banjo and bass. His greatest joys were going to the chicken coop with his granddaughter and playing games with his grandson. On Feb. 1, 1982, he married Karen Faye Meadows, who survives. VERA JEAN MEADOWS GOOD
Vera Jean Good, 80, of Shenandoah, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family. Mrs. Good was born February 13, 1933 in Elkton to the late Imogene Davis Meadows Kesterson. Vera was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church in Shenandoah. She was caregiver for her husband for 15 years before his passing, and was very active with her children, grandchildren, great grand children and loved to travel, especially to the beach. She retired from Merck & Company. On September 30, 1948 she married Emmit "Billy" William Good, who preceded her in death on January 26, 2011. Survivors include her children, Donald Good and fiancée, Daisy Painter, Mark Good and wife, Lorry all of Stanley, Ann Grimsley and husband, Frankie, Rebecca Comer and husband, Wayne, Deborah Comer and husband, Allen all of Shenandoah, Jane Hensley and husband, Steve of Elkton; sisters, Margaret Comfort of Arizona, Burnell Comer of Maryland, Faye Crowe of Keezletown; 19 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren. The Rev. Stephen Creech will conduct a funeral service 2p.m. Wednesday November 13, 2013 at the Christ United Methodist Church in Shenandoah. Burial will follow in the Rest Haven Cemetery in Shenandoah. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton. VIOLA LAM MEADOWS
Viola Lam Meadows, 82, Elkton, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at Dovel's Home for Adults in Elkton, where she had lived for the past three years. Mrs. Meadows was born May 5, 1918, in Page County, and was a daughter of the late Fred Lam and Polly Meadows Lam. She attended the Jollett Bible Mission and Bear Litha Baptist Church. On July 23, 1938, she married Bennie E. Meadows, who died June 5, 1992. Surviving are two sons, Sheldon B. Meadows, and Wilton Edward Meadows, both of Elkton; two daughters, Yvonne M. Strickler, and Maxine D. Dove, both of Elkton; four brothers, Albert Lam, Otis Lam, Leo Lam, all of Elkton, and Robert Lam, Waynesboro; four sisters, Marie Lawson, Sylvia Shifflett, Arvella Monger, and Shelva Campbell, all of Elkton; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. The Rev. Alvin Dovel will conduct the funeral at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Kyger & Trobaugh Funeral Home in Elkton. Burail will follow at Jollett's Cemetery in Elkton. WELFORD DARRELL MEADOWS

Welford "Darrell" Meadows, 78, of Elkton, passed away Jan. 4, 2021, at Sentara RMH Medical Center in Harrisonburg. Darrell was born June 30, 1942, in Rockingham County, Va., and was the son of Welford C. and Frances McDonald Meadows. Mr. Meadows was employed with Ray Carr Tire in Harrisonburg and Charlottesville before retiring after 48 years of service. Darrell enjoyed hunting, camping, NASCAR, and talking politics with his friends. He enjoyed being out with nature and walking through the woods at his home almost daily. His biggest treasures were his family and friends. He never missed any of his children's or grandchildren's events from sports to weekend cookouts. He loved to reminisce about his life with his family and friends and he always had a story. On Nov. 23, 1963, he married Frances "Sissy" Samuels, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Darrell Wayne Meadows and wife, Stacey, of McGaheysville and Jeffrey Lee Meadows and wife, Stephanie, of Elkton; grandchildren, Taylor Hickey and husband, Joe, Jared Meadows and wife, Chelsea, Ethan Meadows, Ava Meadows, Chelsea Samuels, and Canton Breeden; brother, Gary Meadows and wife, Suzy, of McGaheysville; half sister, Karen Morris and husband, Bill, of Elkton; great-grandchildren, Dawson Meadows, Oliver Mills and nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, 2021, at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton with Pastor Rick Robertson officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Garden in Harrisonburg.
