ALMEDA MAE SHIFFLETTE GOOD
Almeda Mae Shifflette Good, 79, a resident of Shenandoah, died at her home on Monday morning, April 3, 2006. She was born in Page County on July 6, 1926, and was the daughter of the late William Everette and Agnes M. Wood Shifflette. Mrs. Good was a graduate of Shenandoah High School, a homemaker and a member of the Shenandoah Baptist Church, Shenandoah Crafters Club, the Independent Bible Study Group of Shenandoah, and Antique Auto Club of America. On Oct. 3, 1948, she married I. W. "Bill" Good, who survives. She is also survived by two sons, W.R. Good and his wife, Carolyn, of Elkton, Eric Good of Waynesboro; a special nephew, William Shifflette, of New Market; four grandchildren, Matthew, Ethan, Simon, and Sydney Good; a sister, Eileen May, of Shenandoah; two brothers, William "Earl" Shifflette of Coraopolis, Pa., James W. Shifflette of McGaheysville; and a half brother, Larry D. Shifflette, of Summerville, S.C. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 6, 2006, at the Shenandoah Baptist Church with Rev. Hudson Nuckols, Rev. Wayne Wright, and Rev. Canon James Drinard Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-8:00 p.m., Wednesday at the Shenandoah Baptist Church. ELKTON ---- Mrs. Annie Crawford, 75, of Rt. 2, Elkton died Sunday afternoon at Rockingham County memorial Hospital where she had been a patient five days. Mrs. Gooden had been ill for five years and had been an invalid for a year. She was born Aug. 6, 1899 in Rockingham County and was a daughter of the late John Scott and Fannie Lee Morris Crawford. She was a member of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church at Rocky Bar. On Dec. 24, 1916 she married Ashby L. Gooden, who died Aug. 13, 1970. Surviving are seven daughters, Mrs. Otho Harlow of Mt. Sidney, Mrs. Margie Saum, Mrs. Margaret Fielding, Miss Irene Ann Gooden, all of Rt. 2, Elkton, Mrs. Beulah Dean of Rt. 3, Elkton and Mrs. Rachel Fielding of Penn Laird; two sons James Ashby Gooden of Rt. 2, Elkton and William P. Gooden of Elkton; a foster son Eddie Gooden of Waldorf, Md.; two brothers, Ernest Crawford of Silver Spring, Md., and Whit Crawford of Rt. 2, Elkton; three sisters, Mrs. Emma McInturff of Nottingham, Pa., Mrs. Mae Morris of Silver Spring, Md., and Mrs. Mary Dean of Rt. 2, Elkton; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at the McGaheysville Full Gospel Assembly Church by the Rev. F. Kirk Powers. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery at McGaheysville. The family will receive friends at the Gooden home at Rt. 2, Elkton, where the body will be taken Tuesday afternoon.

Beverly Ann Good, 53, of Shenandoah, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, at Page Memorial Hospital in Luray. Mrs. Good was born Dec. 8, 1954, in Harrisonburg, and was the daughter of Calvin "Gene" Eugene Hansbrough Sr. of Shenandoah and the late Bettie Anne Foote Hansbrough. She was a lifetime resident of the area. She had been employed by Emco Enterprises in Luray as a fabricator. She was a member of the Avis O. Comer VFW Auxiliary Post 8613. In addition to her father, she is survived by companion, Jody Shifflett of Shenandoah; a son, John "Mickey" Mikel Hutton Jr. of Stanley; a daughter, Angela Michelle Lantz of Elkton; a brother, Calvin Eugene Hansbrough Jr. of Shenandoah; five grandchildren and three nieces. The Rev. Hudson P. Nuckols will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Friday at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton. A private burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Shenandoah. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening at the funeral home. Funeral services for Elsie Kathleen Gooden, 71, of Elkton, will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Landmark Tabernacle in McGaheysville. The Rev. Keith Powers, and Rev. Bill Watson will conduct the service. Burial will follow at Elk Run Cemetery in Elkton. Mrs. Gooden died November 9, 2006 at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville. Mrs. Gooden was born November 18, 1934 in Elkton, Va., and was the daughter of the late Clark Shifflett and Bertha Wood Shifflett. She attended the Landmark Tabernacle in McGaheysville, and was a homemaker. On October 16, 1954, she married Raymond E. Gooden, who died on September 12, 1995. She is survived by two sons, Donnie Ray Gooden, and wife, Donna; Floyd Wayne "Cowboy" Gooden, and wife, Debbie, all of Elkton; one brother, Elmer Shifflett of Elkton; five sisters, Gladys Hensley, Betty Williams, Ada Wyant and Maggie Dean, all of Elkton, and Dorothy Wyant of Penn Laird; six grandchildren, Douglas Ray Gooden, Gregory Alvin Gooden, Jeffrey Everette Gooden, Michael Wayne Gooden, April Nicole Gooden, Rebecca Anne Gooden. Frederick Junior Gooden, 81, of 3117 Mountain Farm Road in Elkton, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at his home. Mr. Gooden was born Nov. 2, 1926, in Rockingham County, and was a son of the late Benjamin and Eva Shifflett Gooden. He was a member of Full Gospel Lighthouse Tabernacle and Gooden Brothers VFW Post 9292 in Elkton. Mr. Gooden was an Army veteran and served in Germany during World War II. He was employed by Madison College as a painter for many years. His wife, Mary M. Gooden, preceded him in death Oct. 2, 2002. They were married March 12, 1951. Survivors include two sons, Frederick O. Gooden and Gary A. Gooden; a daughter, Carolyn J. Shifflett; and a brother, Homer Gooden, all of Elkton; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and a niece. The Rev. Homer Frazier and Pastor Ronald Spencer will conduct the funeral 11 a.m. Saturday at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton. A private burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville. ELKTON - The funeral for George Herbert Gooden, 32, of Elkton will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church at Rocky Bar by the Rev. Richard J. Sander Jr. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville. Mr. Gooden died Friday at the Rockingham Memorial Hospital. He was born Feb. 23, 1935 at Elkton and was a son of Ashby L. and Annie Crawford Gooden. He was a member of the Episcopal church and was employed at Blue Bell Inc. of Elkton. Survivors include seven sisters, Mrs. Otha Harlow of Weyers Cave, Mrs. Margie Saum, Mrs. Margaret Fielding, Miss Betty Jean Gooden and Miss Irene Ann Gooden, all of Rt. 2 Elkton, Mrs. Beulah Dean of Rt. 3, Elkton and Mrs. Rachel Fielding of Penn Laird, and two brothers, James Ashby Gooden of Rt. 2, Elkton and William P. Gooden of Elkton. The family will meet 1:45 p.m. Monday at the home of his parents. The body was moved Sunday from the W. H. Kyger Funeral Home to the home of his parents. Pallbearers will be Johnny Morris, Buddy, Raymond and Clarence Gooden, Randolph Lam and Johnny Roach.

Glendon Lee “Fuzz” Good, 79, of Stanley, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007, at Page Memorial Hospital in Luray. Mr. Good was born June 5, 1928, in Stanley and was the son of the late George Lee and Nina Painter Good. He was a retired animal control officer for Page County. Surviving are three daughters, Sharon Shifflett of Shenandoah, Brenda Pittman of Jacksonville, N.C., and Nina Stanley of Luray; four sons, Roy Lee Good of Stanley, Gary Lee Good of Luray, Charles Allen Good of Stanley and Glendon “Jimmy” F. Good Jr. of Luray; a companion, Anna Cody of Stanley, 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Elder Roy Campbell will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Sunday at Stanley Adventist Church. Burial will be in Stanley Advent Cemetery. The body was taken to the residence Thursday, where the family will receive friends. The Bradley Funeral Home in Luray is handling arrangements.

Hazel Lucille Morris Gooden, 84, formerly of Rocky Bar, died Sunday evening in the Harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation Center, where she had been a resident since September 2008. She was born Aug. 29, 1924, in Lynnwood, and was a daughter of the late John Henry and Bessie Virginia Lake Morris. She was a retired seamstress, employed by the Blue Bell Plant of Elkton. She was a member of the Grace Memorial Episcopal Church. On Nov. 29, 1947, she married James Ashby Gooden, who survives. She is also survived by one daughter, Carole Yvonne Propst of Rocky Bar; two grandchildren, Timothy James Propst and Mathew Scott Propst; and one great-grandson, Logan Dewitt Propst. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Grace Memorial Episcopal Church in Lynnwood by the Rev. Stuart C. Wood. Burial will be in the Port Republic Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Kyger-Pence Funeral Home of McGaheysville. The casket will be closed.

Irene Ann Gooden, 65, of Elkton, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville. Miss Gooden was born May 2, 1937, at Island Ford, near Elkton, and was a daughter of the late Ashby Lee and Annie Crawford Gooden. She graduated from Montevideo High School and was a member of St. Stephens and the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church at Rocky Bar. She was an operator at Owens Brockway in Harrisonburg before retiring. Surviving are two brothers, Jim Gooden and Prentice Gooden, both of Eklton; four sisters, Mary Harlow and Margaret Fielding, both of Harrisonburg, Rachel Fielding of Penn Laird, and Beulah Dean of Elkton; and a number of nieces and nephews. The Revs. Gerald Meeks and Wayne Wright will conduct a memorial service 2 p.m. today at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial was private at Mount Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville.

Mrs. Luva Rebecca Kagey Kingan Good, age 64, of Luther Crest, N. Congress St., New Market, passed away 11:30 Sunday night, Dec. 7, 2003, at the Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg. She was born May 11, 1939, at New Market, and was the daughter of Mary Frances Shifflett Kagey of Life Care Center in New Market and the late John L. Kagey. Mrs. Good had been employed at the former Aileen Inc., A.E.S. Food Service and Woodstock Manufacturing. She was a member of the Wood’s Chapel Independent Bible Church north of New Market. She was predeceased by her second husband, Wilson Good. She is survived by a son, Terry Kingan of Timberville and his fiancée, Dee Dee Price; a daughter, Connie Kingan of Harrisonburg and her companion, Mike Boyce; three grandchildren, Amie Wilder and her husband, D.J., Breianna Kingan and Amanda Kingan; five brothers, Buck Kagey and his wife, Jeannie, of Timberville, George Kagey and his wife, Elizabeth, of Mount Airey, Md., Bobby Kagey and his wife, Carol, of New Market, Earl Kagey of Courtland, Ohio, and Roger Kagey of Harrisonburg. Also surviving are two special friends, her first husband, Dennie M. Kingan of New Market and Mrs. Dale Kipps of New Market. Mabel Louise Gooden, 94, of Harrisonburg, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2007, at Avante Nursing Home in Harrisonburg. Mrs. Gooden was born Jan. 10, 1913, in Nelson County, and was the daughter of the late Turner and Hattie Royer Raines. She was a member of St. Stephen and the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Rocky Bar. She retired from Swift and Company after many years of service. On April 24, 1935, she married Melvin L. Gooden, who preceded her in death Dec. 29, 2004. Surviving are three sons, Junior R. Gooden of Lantana, Fla., H. Richard Gooden of Shenandoah and Harold W. Gooden of Richmond; a daughter, Erma Lee Gooden Shifflett of Richmond; 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. The Rev. Marjorie Showers Wood, 82, 31 Grandview Drive, Waynesboro, died Saturday, July 12, 2003, at her residence. Mrs. Wood was born Aug. 9, 1920, in Fishersville and was the daughter of the late James M. Showers and Helen Hanback Showers. She was a member of Basic United Methodist Church, the Wesley Fellowship Class and Circle One. Surviving are her husband, William D. Wood; two daughters, Rebecca W. Miller and Linda S. Wood; a brother, James D. Showers; a sister, Helen S. Dudley; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. The Rev. Mandy J. Gooden [Amanda Jane Morris], 86, of Rt. 2, Afton, died Saturday. Born in Rockingham County July 12, 1892, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Mary Morris and the widow of W. K. Gooden. She is survived by daughters, Mrs. Lillian Morris of Afton and Addie Shifflett of Dyke; stepdaughter, Mrs. Minnie Hyde of Manns Choice, Pa.; stepsons, Ollie Gooden of Fairhope, Pa., Orvin Gooden of Fla., and William Gooden of Pittsburgh, Pa; nine grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Melvin Lee Gooden, 92, of Elkton, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg. Mr. Gooden was born Nov. 19, 1912, in Rockingham County and was the son of the late Herman Lee and Mary Belle Mowbray Gooden. He was a self-employed barber in the Rocky Bar area for more than 50 years. He was a member of the St. Stephen and the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Rocky Bar. On April 24, 1935, he married Mabel Louise Raines Gooden, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Junior R. Gooden of Lantana, Fla., H. Richard Gooden and Harold W. Rachel Mae Fielding, 77, a resident at Sunnyside Presbyterian Home, died February 1, 2006 at Sunnyside. Mrs. Fielding was born September 21, 1928 in Elkton, and was the daughter of the late Ashby and Annie Crawford Gooden. She was a graduate of McGaheysville High School and a member of the St. Stephens and the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Rocky Bar. On December 18, 1948, she married George Owen Fielding, who died February 5, 1999. She is survived by two sons, Gary Fielding, Penn Laird, Barry W. Fielding and wife, Sheila, Port Republic; a daughter, Judy Hinegardner, Harrisonburg; two brothers, James Gooden, Prentice Gooden, both of Elkton; two sisters, Beulah Dean, Elkton, Margaret Fielding, Harrisonburg; and three grandchildren, Jamie Lynn Hinegardner, Matthew Eliot Fielding, Melinda Beth Fielding. Robert L. Good, 80, of Elkton, died Friday, June 20, 2008, at his home. Mr. Good was born Jan. 13, 1928, in Elkton and was the son of the late Wilmer "Jack" and Addie Breeden Good. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Dean Good, one sister, Lou Emma Stover, and two brothers, Charles "Bob" Good and Cecil J. Good. In 1988, Mr. Good retired from American Safety Razor after 33 years of service. ROY LEE GOODEN
Roy Lee Gooden Sr., 64, of Grottoes, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006, at his home following an illness from cancer. Mr. Gooden was born July 18, 1942, in Rockingham County and was the son of the late Jake and Marie Lam Gooden Miller, and the stepson of the late Benjamin Miller. He worked at Nielson Construction in Harrisonburg for 20 years, before his illness. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. On July 16, 1984, he married Louise Virginia Holloway Gooden; she survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Deborah Carter of South Carolina and Crystal Phelps of Elkton; a son, Roy Lee Gooden Jr. of Harrisonburg; three stepsisters, Joan Dove, Jan Miller and Judith Boyers, and six grandchildren. Pastor John N. Neff will conduct the graveside funeral with military grave honors 4 p.m. Sunday in the Mount Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Johnson Funeral Service in Grottoes or at the home at any time. GOOD, WILMER JASPER (Jack) age 91 yrs. died 14 Nov 1990 at Harrisonburg, Va. Born 06 Dec 1898 in Rockingham Co., son of the late Charles A. & Lydia Stoneberger Good. Married 28 Oct 1920 Addie E. Breeden who died 30 Aug 1983. Sons, Cecil Good, Robert Good, Gene Good & W. C. Good all of Elkton. Daughters, Pansy Shifflett, Helen Kisling, Nellie Meadows & Ann Fielding all of Elkton, Lou Emma Stover of McGaheysville, Betty Campbell of Shenandoah & Deloris Frazier of Gainesville. Sister, Nellie Viands of Buffalo, NY. 33 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren & 9 great-great grandchild. Burial in Elk Run Cemetery in Elkton, Va.
