ANGELINE CONLEY
Mrs. Conley Dies; 120 Years Of Age
Mrs. Angeline Conley, believed to have been in her 121st year, who had lived to see four generations of her descendants died December 23 at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. John P. Morris near Barboursville. Mrs. Conley spent all of her life in Greene and Orange County. Her survivors included five children, 47 grandchildren, and 70 great grandchildren. Although Mrs. Conley herself freely admitted in her later years her family testified that she was born October 4, 1825. The aged woman estimated her lifespan by the fall of stars in 1833,” which she remembers seeing while out in the field working with her mother. She recalls that at that time she was “a good sized girl”. Astronomers record such a fall of Leonids in November of 1833. Although Mrs. Conley was never sick, observers report that she “kinda wore out” toward the last. She was in bed the major portion of the past six to eight months, but before this period she sat in a chair for a time each day.
