ANITA LOUISE BEASLEY
Anita Louise Beasley, of Mechanicsville, Va., passed away Friday, August 17, 2007. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Louise Beasley; her sister, Sylvia Beasley; and her beloved grandparents, Leslie and Rosa Beasley. Anita is survived by two cousins, Sonny Beasley and Carolyn Dyson; and many dear friends. Her special friends include Debra Shiflett and her son, Jerry Woodson, and Anne Wells and her son, Charlie, who were her loving caregivers. Also she is survived by her adopted family, the Lumpkins, and their children, Vanna Atkinson and Ronda Tyler. Anita grew up in Henrico County and graduated from Highland Springs High School in 1960. After graduating, she served with the Henrico Volunteer Rescue Squad as an E.M.T. and squad leader. She worked in the Henrico County Purchasing Department (1962-1967), Henrico School Board Division of Construction and Maintenance (1967-1979), and was finally employed with the Division of Police as an Accountant Clerk II on August 1, 1979. Anita received several commendations while employed by the division of police, including one for developing a system to accurately track and record timekeeping for exempt employees of the division. Anita was employed with the County of Henrico for over 40 years, 23 years with the Division of Police, and retired January 14, 2003. Anita was a very special person, who had many friends with the Division of Police and the county. She was a dedicated and loyal employee who gave of herself to everyone who needed assistance. Anita will be missed by all who knew and loved her. The family received friends Sunday, August 19, at the Mechanicsville Chapel, Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Rd., where funeral services were also held Monday August 20, 2007. Graveside services occurred at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Carrie Lillian Beasley Breeden, 100, of Madison, Virginia, died Thursday, July 13, 2006, at her home. She was born October 21, 1905, in Greene County, the daughter of the late Arthur and Rosa Beasley. She was a lifelong member of the Liberty Baptist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Arlene Samuels and her husband, W. Gaither of Greene County; four sons, Marvin Breeden and his wife, Mary, of Madison, Melvin Breeden and his wife, Myrtle, of Fredericksburg, Milton Breeden of Advance Mills and Myron Breeden of Madison. She has four granddaughters, Linda Koch and her husband, Michael, Marsha Gibson and her husband, Ralph, Paige Duncan and her husband, Greg, and Betsy Thompson and her husband, Gary; two grandsons, James Breeden and his wife, Jessie and Barkley Breeden and his wife, Sandra; nine great-grandchildren, Stephen Koch and his wife, Wendy, Anthony Koch, Travis Gibson and his wife, Jessica, Candice Breeden, Morgan Duncan, Carrie and Logan Thompson, Josh and Hunter Breeden; and one great-grandchild, Joseph Gibson. She is also survived by special friends, Gene and Elizabeth Breeden. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman; her granddaughter, Renee Breeden; and her daughter-in-law, Betty Breeden. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, July 15, 2006, at the Preddy Funeral Home in Madison, with interment in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Pastor W.G. Clara Mae Beasley Lam, 76, of Stanardsville, formerly of Gordonsville, died Saturday, November 17, 2007, at her residence. Born January 31, 1931, in Greene County, she was a daughter of the late Jeremiah Beasley and Rebecca Jane Collier Beasley. She was the wife of the late William Floyd Lam Sr. She was a member of Ehearts Pentecostal Church. Mrs. Lam was known for her caregiving to everyone she knew. Her life revolved around her family and friends and she was a mother to each of them. She is survived by five daughters, Bonnie Sue Johnson and her husband, Mike, of Gordonsville, Gladys Marie Roach of Stanardsville, Barbara Ann Vanover of Stanardsville, Janet Rebecca Shelton and her husband, Pete, of Gordonsville, and Audrey Faye Lettner and her husband, Eddie, of Gordonsville; one son, Cecil Ray Lam and his wife, Misty, of Gordonsville; one sister, Ann Beasley Dowell Boone and her husband, Lemuel, of Gordonsville; a special granddaughter, Angela Hawkins of Orange; special nephews, Carroll Beasley whom she considered her son, Kenny Conley, and Mervin Gibson; special niece, Geneva Williams; 21 other grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by two sons, William Floyd Lam Jr. and Roger Lee Lam; a grandson, Brandon Ray Lam; four brothers, Arthur Beasley, Linnie Beasley, George Beasley and Elwood Beasley; and six sisters, Sarah Hensley, Kate Shifflett, Caroline Gibson, Minnie Conley, Violet "Ollie" Shifflett and Geneva Wood. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2007, at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel of Gordonsville with interment to follow at Ehearts Pentecostal Church Cemetery. Brother Omie Shifflett will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, November 19, 2007, at the funeral home. Danny Wilson Beasley, 51, of Elkton, died Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg. Mr. Beasley was born Dec. 19, 1953, in Harrisonburg and was the son of Junior Lee Beasley of McGaheysville and the late Doris Regina Shifflett Beasley. He attended Montevideo High School and was a superintendent at Nielson Construction for 35 years. He was a former member of the McGaheysville Fire Department, and was a member of the Mount Olivet Christian Church. On Dec. 30, 1982, he married Vivian Lam Beasley; she survives. Also surviving are a son, Daniel W. Beasley, at home; a daughter, Kimberly D. Beasley, at home; a brother, Steven L. Beasley of Grottoes; two sisters, Sandra K. Regan of Elkton and Doris J. Emmert of McGaheysville, and an adopted father, Earl Hensley of Elkton. The Revs. Wayne Wright and John Neff will conduct the funeral 11 a.m. Saturday at the Mount Olivet Christian Church near Elkton. Burial will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. tonight at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton. Friends may also call at the Beasley home at any time. Dolli Beasley Sherman, 50, of 650 Garbers Church Road in Harrisonburg, died suddenly Tuesday, May 17, 2005, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg. Mrs. Sherman was born July 20, 1954, and was a daughter of the late Russell and Beatrice Shifflet Beasley. She was a nurse and had been employed at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. She was an active member of the Bridgewater United Methodist Church. On Aug. 21, 1971, she married Jimmy W. Sherman, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Denise Spicer of Staunton, and Anngela Gibson and Ashley Sherman, both of Harrisonburg; a son, Anthony Sherman of Harrisonburg; and four sisters, Bessie Knight and Mabel Cash, both of Elkton, and Hazel Beasley and Lois "Jeannie" Judy, both of Harrisonburg. The Rev. Doug Gestwick and Shirley Hohenstein will conduct a memorial service 7 p.m. Thursday at the Bridgewater United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service. Friends may also call at the Sherman home at any time. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bridgewater United Methodist Church, 219 North Main St., Bridgewater, VA 22812. Gary Lewis Beasley, 55, of North Garden, died Thursday, December 13, 2007, at his home. Born December 21, 1951, in Charlottesville, he was the son of Charlotte Morris Beasley and the late Leslie W. Beasley. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife, Sharon L. Beasley; two sons, Christopher Beasley and his wife, Sherri Hunter, and Robert Beasley and his wife, Shannon; two sisters, Ann Sandridge and her husband, David, and Lori Beasley; one brother, Timothy Beasley and his wife, Rhonda, and two grandchildren, Claire and Elise Beasley. He also leaves dozens of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews with fond memories of him. After decades working in the water and sewer industry, Gary redirected his interests and received a Masters in Education from the University of Virginia Curry School of Education. Gary's favorite activities included music, spending time with his family, dancing with his lovely wife, guiding their two sons into fine young men, and playing with their two grandchildren. Gary was an accomplished musician and recently used his talents to provide therapeutic music to hospital patients. Gary was the leader of his extended family, always providing support to his mother, siblings, and close relatives. His warm and welcoming manner provided the base around which family gatherings grew and revolved. A memorial service will be conducted 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2007, at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 1901 Thomson Road, across from Memorial Gym. George Washington Beasley, 82, of Barboursville, died Sunday in a Charlottesville hospital. Born Jan. 18, 1903, in Rockingham Co., he was the son of the late Jerry M. and Roberta Williams Beasley. He was the widower of Ethel Roach Beasely and step son of Rebecca Collier Beasley. He was a member of Highpoint Pentecostal Church in Charlottesville and a retired saw mill operator. He is survived by two daughters, Juanita B. Pratt of Baltimore, Md., and Geneva B. Williams of Barboursville; one brother, Elwood N. Beasley of Barboursville; four sisters, Clara M. Lamb of Barboursville, Geneva V. Wood of Charlottesville, ann M. Dowell of Mineral, and Minnie Conley of Orange; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. James A. Beasley, 76, of Erma, NJ, died on Sunday, May 7, 2006, at the Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital, Cape May Court House, NJ. He was born in Elkton, VA, the son of the late Albert Grover and Ellie Jennett Breedon Beasley. He was a retired professional builder. He retired from the US Air Force and had served during the Korean Conflict. He attended the Rio Grande Bible Church. He enjoyed bowling, freshwater fishing and barbecuing. He was a softball pitcher and boxer while serving in the military. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Shifflett; these children: Leonard R. and wife, Elaine, of Morehead, NC, James E. (Pete) and wife, Chryl, of Vineland, NJ, Robert L. and wife, Susan, of Waynesville, NC, Brenda S. Dilks of Cape May Court House, NJ, Carol L. Eldrege and husband, Vernon, of Erma, NJ, and Jerry W. and wife, Sandra, of Cape May Court House, NJ; two brothers: William of Beltsville, MD, and Edward of Las Vegas, NV; sister: Buth Block of Las Vegas, NV; sixteen grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren. STANARDSVILLE — James Elmer Beasley, 62, of Stanardsville died Wednesday in a Charlottesville hospital. He was born Sept. 25, 1926, in Rockingham County and was a son of the late Herbert W. and Sara Shifflett Beasley. He is survived by four daughters, Virginia A. Beavers of Richards, Barbara B. Morris of Stanardsville, Joyce Maye Beasley of Seabrook, Md., and Lois Lambert of Silver Spring, Md.; two sisters, Letha Lam of McGaheysville and Patricia Dean of Elkton; two brothers, Buster Beasley of McGaheysville and Cleveland Beasley of Elkton; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at the Ryan Funeral Home, Quinque by the Rev. J.W. Roach. Burial will be in the Rest Haven Cemetery, Harrisonburg. Junior Lee Beasley, 75, of McGaheysville, died July 6, 2005, at the home of his daughter in McGaheysville. Mr. Beasley was born July 3, 1930, in Scottsville, and was the son of the late Herbert Wilson and Sarah Shifflett Beasley. Mr. Beasley was a retired stone mason at Nielsen Construction Company in Harrisonburg. Following retirement, Mr. Beasley worked with his brother, Grover. In 1950, he married Doris Shifflett Beasley, who preceded him in death June 2, 2003. He is survived by a son, Steven Lee Beasley, Grottoes; a stepson, Tommy Mitchell, Port Republic; three daughters, Regina Beasley and Doris Emmert, both of McGaheysville, and Sandra Regan of Elkton; a brother, Grover Beasley, Elkton; a sister, Patricia Dean, Shenandoah; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. Mr. Beasley is also preceded in death by two sons, Ralph Beasley and Danny Beasley. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2005, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton. The Rev. Robert Buchanan will conduct the service. Burial will follow in the Mount Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville. Mrs. Katherine (Kate) B. Shiflett, of Mineral died Wednesday, September 3, 1980, in a Richmond hospital at the age of 63. Funeral services conducted by Rev. Glen Buie, were held Saturday, September 6, at 2 P.M. from Woodward Funeral Home, with interment in Hillcrest Cemetery. Pallbearers were Kenny Conley, Max Hensley, James Gibson, Will Lamb Jr., Carroll Beasley, Marvin Gibson, Frankie Dower and Gary Dower. She is survived by her husband, Clyde W. Shifflett; one daughter, Doris S. West, of Henrico; six sisters; Ann Dowell, Clara Lamb, Genera Wood, Minnie Conley, Olivea Shiflett and Caroline Gibson; two brothers George and Elwood Beasley and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Shiflett was born November 2, 1916, in Greene County, a daughter of Jerry and Roberta Williams Beasley.

Lorraine Frances Beasley, 67, of Elkton, died July 31, 2003, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg. Mrs. Beasley was born Oct. 3, 1935, in Rockingham County near Elkton, and was the daughter of the late James F. and Loney Collier Shifflett. She was a homemaker and lived her entire life in the Elkton area. Mrs. Beasley is survived by her husband, Cleveland Beasley; two sons, Allen Ray Beasley, Elkton, and his two children, Christy Dean and Natasha Beasley; Franklin Beasley, Elkton, and Amy Austin, and his three children, Stephanie Beasley, Misty Taylor and Cody Beasley; a daughter, Lisa Shifflett and husband, Bruce, and their children, Dana McDonaldson, Kelly Shifflett, Tiffany Shifflett; a sister, Bernice McDonald, Elkton; a brother, Leroy Shifflett, Elkton; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Beasley was preceded in death by a brother, James R. Shifflett. Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Full Gospel Lighthouse Tabernacle in Elkton. The Rev. Homer Frazier and Rev. He was preceded in death by his father Lowell Benson Beasley Sr. and sister, Bobbie Jean Beasley. Survivors include his mother, Othell Shiflett Beasley, and his sister, Satilla (Jimmy) Grizzle, all of Dahlonega. Mary Bell Beasley, 89, of Stanardsville, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2003, at a Charlottesville hospital. She was born April 1, 1914, in Greene County, daughter of the late Willie and Mamie Collier Morris. Her first husband was Davis Shifflett, and her second husband was the late Linnie Beasley. She is also preceded in death by two sons, Luther Shifflett and Randolph Shifflett. She is survived by five sons, James Shifflett, and wife Thelma, of Orange, Harmon Shifflett, and wife, Lucille, Kenny Shifflett, and wife Audrey, Howard Shifflett, and wife Doris, and Leon Beasley and wife Carla, all of Ruckersville; two daughters, Hattie Brill, and husband Michael, and Joyce Wheeler, and husband, John of Stanardsville; two step daughters, Esther Abel of Fredericksburg, and Eunice Shifflett of Stanardsville; two sisters, Della Byram, and husband Bruce, and Arlene Byram, and husband Eugene of Orange; 26 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, August 30, 2003, at the Nortonsville Pentecostal Church, with interment in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pastor Robert Akers and Brother Ellis Roach will officiate. BEASLEY, MARY LEE, 75 - of Erma, died on Thursday, October 9, 2008, at the home of her daughter, Carol L. Eldredge. She was born in Elkton, VA, the daughter of the late Lester Lee and Della May Morris Shifflett and was an area resident for twenty two years. She was a member of the Rio Grande Bible Baptist Church. Mrs. Beasley had worked for the Murks Company and Elkton Sewing Company of Elkton, VA; painted for the Hummel Factory in Maryland and was one of their most talented painters and was supervisor of housekeeping at Congress Hall in Cape May. In addition to her daughter, Carol L. Eldrege and her husband, Vernon, she is survived by four sons: Ray (wife, Elaine) of NC; Pete (wife, Chryl) of Vineland; Robert (wife, Sue) of NC and Jerry (wife, Sandy) of Cape May Court House; three sisters: Della Zeigler of Villas; Suzie Cheri and Rachael King both of Maryland; sixteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, James A. in 2006; her sister, Bernice Beasley and brother Dick Shifflett and her daughter, Brenda Dilks. ELKTON - The funeral for Nathan H. Beasley, 52, of Rt. 3, Elkton will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Elkton Pentecostal Church by the Rev. Ennis Dean and Dr. Leif O. Torkelson. Burial will be in Linville United Church of Christ Cemetery. Mr. Beasley died Wednesday evening at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. He was born June 21, 1925 at Elkton and was a son of Sarah Shifflett Beasley of Elkton and the late Herbert W. Beasley. He was married twice. His first wife, the former Margaret Sheehan, died in February of 1970. His second wife, the former Ruby Eanes, survives. Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are seven daughters, Brenda Lee Conley of Penn Laird, Kathy Lorraine Shifflett of Mt. Crawford, Carolyn Sue Bazzle of Harrisonburg, Rose Marie Knight of Weyers Cave and Katrina Michelle, Sylvia Scott and Trenda Scott Beasley, all at home; four sons, Gary Wilson Beasley of Penn Laird, Garland Nathan Beasley of Harrisonburg and Tony Eugene and Roy Edward Beasley, both at home; three sisters, Patricia Ann Dean and Irene Spitzer, both of Elkton, and Letha Marie Lam of McGaheysville; three brothers, Grover Cleveland Beasley of Elkton, James Elmer Beasley of Maryland and Junior Lee Beasley of McGaheysville; 18 grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. The body is at the Brill Funeral Home but will be taken to the Beasley home 5 p.m. today.

Nicholas Patrick Beasley, 16, of 1061 Indian Trail, Lawrenceburg, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004 from injuries sustained in a car accident on Old Louisville Road at Salvisa. Born April 3, 1987 in Lexington, he attended Fairview Christian Church and was a member of the church's youth group. He was an 11th grader at the Christian Academy of Lawrenceburg. Survivors include his mother, Judith Carol Darnell Beasley of Lawrenceburg; his father and stepmother, James Edward and Beverly Beasley of Lawrenceburg; four sisters, Carolee Shifflett of Salvisa, Jill Harper (Jeff) of Lawrenceburg, Mary Evelyn Beasley of Harrodsburg and Holly Shifflett of Lawrenceburg; two brothers, Wade Beasley (Sylvia) of Shelbyville and Billy Beasley (Tina) of Burgin; a stepsister, three stepbrothers, a maternal grandmother, Loraine Darnell of Lawrenceburg, and paternal grandmother, Dorothy Beasley of Harrodsburg. Beasley was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Russell Darnell, and paternal grandfather, James Franklin Beasley. The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Gash Memorial Chapel in Lawrenceburg with Bro. Mark Wells officiating. Burial was in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery. Pallbearers were Glenn Goodlett, Tim Robinson, Jamie Goodlett, Bradley Cheeseman, Jeffery Cheeseman and Adam Hale. Honorary pallbearers were 11th grade students at the Christian Academy of Lawrenceburg.

RUSSELL HOWARD BEASLEY
Russell Howard Beasley, 87, of Grandview Drive, Harrisonburg died Feb. 13, 1993, at Bridgewater Home, where he had been a patient for one day. He had been ill for six weeks. Mr. Beasley was born Dec. 15, 1905, in Rockingham County and was the son of the late Polly Beasley. He moved to Harrisonburg in 1951 from McGaheysville and was a member of the Pentecostal Church. He worked for the R.S. Monger Lumber & Coal Co. and also part-time at Shenandoah Manufacturing. On Aug. 21, 1937, he married Beatrice Ann Shifflett, who died May 23, 1986. Surviving are five daughters, Bessie Knight and Mabel Cash, both of Elkton, and Hazel Beasley, Lois "Jeanni" Judy, and Dolli Sherman, all of Harrisonburg; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. The Revs. Johnny E. Hensley and Wayne Comer will conduct the funeral at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Upper Room Church in Elkton. Burial will be in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg. The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. today at the Kyger & Trobaugh Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. Friends also may call at the homes of any of his daughters at any time.  See Wife Beatrice's Obit

Mrs. Sara Helen Beasley Hensley, 61, of 526 Georgetown Road, died Friday, March 22, 1974 in a local hospital. Born in Greene County she was the daughter of the late Jerry and Roberta Williams Beasley, and the step-daughter of the late Rebecca Collier Beasley. Mrs. Hensley is survived by four sons, Clarence W. Hensley of Herndon, Roy A. and Curtis R. Hensley of Barboursville, and Harry M. Beasley of Orange; two daughters, Mrs. Virginia Barnett and Maud M. Lloyd of Charlottesville; two brothers, George Beasley of Stanardsville and Elwood Beasley of Barboursville; seven sisters, Mrs. Geneva Wood of Charlottesville, Mrs. Caroline Gibson, Mrs. Ollie Shifflett and Mrs. Clara Lamb of Barboursville, Mrs. Katie Shifflett and Mrs. Ann Dowell of Mineral, and Mrs. Minnie Conley of Orange; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday 2 p.m. at Hill and Irving Funeral Chapel. Interment followed in Maplewood Cemetery.
